From the Burrow to Broadway…  

Nearly two decades since he last played the red-headed hero and one third of the golden trio on screen, Rupert Grint is returning to Hogwarts to embody the grown-up version of the one-and-only Ron Weasley… this time on stage. We haven’t been this excited since the Chudley Cannons last won a match!  

For 17 weeks only, you can catch Rupert returning to his Weasley roots in *Harry Potter and the Cursed Child* from 2nd February – 30th May 2027 at [New York’s Lyric Theatre](https://broadway.harrypottertheplay.com/).

With the play set 19 years after the events of *Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows*, Rupert reflects on the “full-circle” experience of playing Ron as a child and now as a father.

Tom Felton made his Broadway debut as a grown-up Draco in the *Cursed Child* in November 2025, 15 years after he last played the angst-ridden antagonist in the films. The multi-award-winning show, written by Jack Thorne and directed by John Tiffany, first apparated to the London stage in 2016. Ever since, it’s been enthralling audiences worldwide with its breathtaking illusions, theatrical magic, and emotional story.  

Now, a decade later, *Harry Potter and the Cursed Child* has broken a new record; it’s the longest running play in modern West End history to be performed as a two-part theatrical experience. To put that achievement into context, here are some stats for you Arithmancy lovers: 

•   The show has been seen by __2.5 million people__ at the Palace Theatre, including __300,000__ first-time theatregoers  

•   There have been a combined total of __1,762 performances__ of Part 1 and Part 2, totalling a jaw-dropping __8,300 hours__ of performance time!  

We couldn’t think of a better use of 49 weeks of our lives, to be honest. 

Scriptwriter Jack Thorne champions the collaborative effort of creating a show that sparks people’s love of theatre:

Nope, your internet has not gone wobbly: this is really happening. 

Tom Felton, who played Harry’s nemesis Draco Malfoy in all eight of the original Harry Potter films, is to play the character once again as a grown-up. In fact, Tom will be exactly the same age as the character is in the play.

It has been 15 years since the actor last played the conflicted Slytherin, and now, Tom examines the character in adulthood, with the play set 19 years after the events of *Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows*. On the casting, Tom described the feeling as “surreal” and was “thrilled” to be taking part in the show.

“Being a part of the Harry Potter films has been one of the greatest honours of my life,” he said.

“Joining this production will be a full-circle moment for me, because when I begin performances in *Cursed Child* this fall, I’ll also be the exact age Draco is in the play. It’s surreal to be stepping back into his shoes – and of course his iconic platinum blond hair – and I am thrilled to be able to see his story through and to share it with the greatest fan community in the world. As Producers Sonia Friedman Productions, Colin Callender and Harry Potter Theatrical Productions revealed, the magic is set to continue on stage with the record-breaking show telling the entire eighth story in a single performance with one interval and a run time of 2 hours and 55 minutes. 

As *Cursed Child* enters its second decade in the West End, this evolution marks an exciting new chapter. One which is more accessible to Harry Potter fans, allowing even more audiences to take in the wonder of the wizarding world with just one ticket and one trip to the theatre.

With companies around the globe already having moved to this dynamic format, such as the Broadway production in New York City, which is breaking all major box-office records, we’re excited to see how this new adventure is set to unfold.

His love for Aidan Close, who plays Scorpius Malfoy, is so endearing – we’re sure they’re set to become another iconic duo. In fact, with the matching floral motifs on their red carpet outfits, it appears they’re already on the same wavelength! 

Also, can we take a moment for Aidan’s look? The fairytale skirt in black tulle. The contrast of light and dark. The whimsical flowers that are blooming with colour. This imaginative creation captures the magic of Harry Potter perfectly.

Aidan’s outfit wasn’t the only one that made us think of the wizarding world. With sleeves that remind us of wings, Rachel Christopher’s fantastic gold dress could have been inspired by the Golden Snitch. Her onstage daughter, Janae Hammond, was rocking a suit in Gryffindor red – a fitting nod to her character, Rose Granger-Weasley. The third member of this famous family, Daniel Fredrick, eschewed Ron’s signature maroon for a suave pink suit instead.

The Potters were also dressed to impress! Playing the only Slytherin in the family, Emmet Smith proudly wore his character Albus’ house colours. His onstage father, John Skelley, looked sharp in a smart suit. While Trish Lindstrom, who plays Ginny Potter, added a pop of colour to the proceedings with a fun, pink dress.

## The time Scorpius tried to pay Rose a compliment
Scorpius clearly had a soft spot for Rose Granger-Weasley – but he was truly terrible at approaching her. Out of all the things he could have said when trying to pay her a compliment, he compared her to bread – just what everybody dreams of hearing. Luckily for us though, it gave us a Scorpius moment that was awkward, endearing and also funny.

## McGonagall’s chimney
We reckon Professor McGonagall wished she didn’t have a fireplace in her office. The number of times her poor carpet had dust and soot trampled into it by old students was enough to make anyone wince. However, we enjoyed her witty responses to the situation and were thoroughly amused by the sorry saga of McGonagall’s office carpet…

It could have made for a very sad and serious moment when Snape realised he had died in an alternate timeline. Instead, he took it surprisingly well. He even managed to bring some humour to the situation – at poor Ron’s expense of course…

In typical Ron and Hermione style, their romantic decision to renew their vows was also pretty amusing. This pair were the masters of bickering banter, so it only made sense that this important moment was steeped in their trademark style of communication. It also made us giggle – always a bonus.
