Peter Serafinowicz to play Peeves the Poltergeist in the Harry Potter HBO Original Series

Peter Serafinowicz, the actor and comedian known for his roles in everything from *How to Train Your Drago*n to *The Peter Serafinowicz Show*, has officially signed up to play one of the Harry Potter stories’ naughtiest characters, [Peeves](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/peeves).  

Known for causing all sorts of pandemonium, like dropping walking sticks on Neville’s head or hiding in a suit of armour and singing rude songs, this will be the first time that this fan-favourite character will appear on screen!

It’s not too long until we get to see this agent of chaos unleashed... as the series will debut Christmas 2026 on HBO and will be available to stream exclusively on HBO Max where it’s available, including recent launch markets Germany, Italy, and the UK & Ireland.

## Everything you need to know from the first trailer

### Revelio premiere date!
First things first, we’re sure you have all been desperate to know when you could return to Hogwarts, so we’re extremely pleased to reveal that you are in for a very happy (and magical) Christmas indeed! Yes! The first episode of this brand-new series will be coming to screens this year.

### What the first season will be called
The premiere date wasn’t the only revelation from this first teaser, the eagle-eyed among you will have spotted that the official name of the first season was also shared… *Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone*.

### Inside Privet Drive
The trailer opens with a shot of the Dursley home, pristine and perfectly decorated with its ghastly wallpaper and the equally ghastly Uncle Vernon sat at the kitchen table.

Then there’s the heartbreaking moment of Harry crying in his cupboard-under-the-stairs. What is possibly even more devastating is that he has tried to make this space more homely with pictures and drawings – did you spot the flying motorbike?

All of this perfectly sets the scene of Harry’s horrid childhood… but there’s more. We can confirm that never-before-seen moments from the stories will be brought to life on screen for the first time.

### Muggle school
Starting with Harry’s time at Muggle school. In the books, Harry mentions how he was tormented by his odious cousin Dudley and his motley crew – including recalling an incident that saw him inexplicably end up on the school roof during an escape attempt. A mere mention in the story, that torment has now been expanded and visualised with the teaser sharing a glimpse of Harry in his ill-fitting uniform being chased and cornered by this bunch of bullies.

### That haircut
Aunt Petunia’s hatred of mess extended to Harry’s unruly hair and resulted in a particularly terrible haircut for the Boy-Who-Lived. Once again, this was a tiny moment in the books. A memory of Harry’s where his aunt’s battle against his hair proved fruitless thanks to it growing back overnight. With kitchen scissors, anger and a pile of hair on the Dursleys’ floor, it has also had the on-screen treatment.

### The London Underground
It’s not just the uglier parts of Harry’s story that fans will finally get to see but some of the more heartwarming moments too – such as Harry and Hagrid on the Tube together. This scene also shows the emotional direction of this series. Love has always been at the centre of Harry Potter, and this is perfectly demonstrated in the touching and vulnerable way Hagrid talks about James and Lily Potter. We hope you’ve got some tissues close by, you’re going to need them!

### We truly are in the 1990s 
As we all know, the Harry Potter stories are set in the 1990s with Harry discovering his true wizarding identity in 1991. As a faithful adaptation of the books, from the outfit choices and hairstyles of the Muggles on the London Underground, to Mrs Weasley’s ensemble making her the epitome of the 90s mum and not forgetting Aunt Petunia’s enormous glasses, this new Harry Potter television show is packed with 90s nostalgia.

### Walking into Hogwarts for the first time
Although he was forced to spend many miserable years with the Dursleys, it was Hogwarts that was always Harry's true home. Reimagined for the television series, the trailer provided an exciting first look at some of the magical details of our favourite wizarding school. Did you see the grand Entrance Hall with intricately carved doors and sweeping staircase? Recognise Professor Sprout’s light and airy greenhouse complete with magical foliage? Spot the Gryffindor common room with its squashy chairs? That’s just the tip of the iceberg, there will be far more to explore in the upcoming months.

### The new house heraldry
It also wouldn’t be Hogwarts without the Hogwarts houses! The house heraldry has had a makeover. While the colours and mascots remain the same, if you look carefully, you’ll spot the new emblems hanging in the Entrance Hall and displayed on the Quidditch robes.

### School robes
Speaking of robes, the Hogwarts uniforms have been revealed too! The students still have their traditional black robes as described in the books. The show is also going down the route of school uniforms with distinguishable details for each house – like the colour of the students’ ties. However, the most noticeable change is the Hogwarts crest, which is a simple, striking ‘H’ rather than a coat of arms.

### The Sorting Hat reimagined
An iconic Hogwarts artefact was shown in the trailer – the Sorting Hat. In the first book, it is described as a patched and frayed pointed wizard’s hat with a rip near the brim like a mouth – it’s safe to say that this is yet another example of how the television show is remaining faithful to the stories.

### The wand chooses the wizard
The Sorting Hat wasn’t the only important object highlighted in the trailer. We also got see the moment Harry’s wand was placed into his hand. Straightforward but with a hint of detailing around the handle, it suits the boy wizard well.

### Quidditch!
There were plenty of Quidditch moments to get excited about! The costume and art department have pulled out all the stops when it comes to this wizarding pastime. The striking black and red box for Harry’s new Nimbus 2000. The Quidditch uniforms with cloaks embroidered with their names and numbers. The design of the brooms themselves with their fanned-out bristles – it’s ramshackle whimsy at its finest.

### A festive snowball fight
With time to explore the smaller moments of the book, the trailer showed us yet another that has never been imagined on screen before – the Christmas snowball fight! If Hagrid’s snow angel doesn’t capture the joy of the stories, we don’t know what does.

### All the characters you see
We are also extremely excited to share a first look at some familiar characters from the wizarding world. In this trailer alone, there was Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Albus Dumbledore, Rubeus Hagrid, Minerva McGonagall, Severus Snape, the Dursleys, Molly Weasley, Garrick Ollivander, Draco Malfoy, Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle and Pansy Parkinson. Did you spot them all?

### The tiny details
Throughout the teaser, there are shots where you can truly see all the care and attention that has gone into this brand-new depiction of the Harry Potter stories. The new designs for the wizarding sweets such as Bertie Bott’s Every-Flavour Beans. Dumbledore’s famous half-moon spectacles. There’s even that smudge of dirt of Ron Weasley’s nose. Every single moment has been carefully thought about, evoking a world so convincing you feel as though you could reach through the screen and touch it.

### That’s not all…
There is still so much more to come – such as the spectacular new score by Hans Zimmer which is yet to be heard. Stay tuned over the coming months as more magic is set to be revealed.

In this 25th anniversary year, what better way to celebrate the wonder of the wizarding world than with a never-before-seen open-air spectacle?

Well, luckily for fans around the world, Warner Bros. Discovery Global Experiences and Fever, the world’s leading tech platform for discovering culture and live entertainment, have announced DroneArt Show: Harry Potter is coming to cities across the globe in 2026.

As darkness descends, this one-of-a-kind show is set to create its own kind of magic as 1,200 illuminated drones soar across the night sky reimagining the iconic moments from the Harry Potter films.

With a live violinist in select cities, advanced drone choreography and the spellbinding songs from the soundtrack and dialogue of the Harry Potter film series, fans will feel as though they have been transported into the magical world with this breathtaking show.

If that’s not enough, as part of the experience, fans will also receive LED wristband that allows them to interact further with the magic of the performance. Plus, there will be plenty of Harry Potter-themed goodies available for purchase to commemorate this wonderfully unique experience.

This act of aerial artistry will launch in Los Angeles on 13th June, with a special one-night-only 25th Anniversary show at the UNIQLO Field at Dodger Stadium. Fans can expect additional carefully curated moments especially for this landmark gathering.

However, fans outside of LA should not despair! This is set to be global experience, celebrating the beloved film series that has captured the imagination of multiple generations. Starting in America, it will also travel across the United Kingdom and Europe.

What is it that gives us that spine-tingling feeling? Well, a team of scientists from Goldsmiths University’s i2 Media Research Lab have been on a quest to find out and where better to do it than somewhere recently named one of the happiest places in the world? 

Yes! This study was commissioned and undertaken at [Warner Bros. Studio Tour London](https://www.wbstudiotour.co.uk/?utm_source=wwd_web&utm_medium=newsarticle&utm_campaign=tr&utm_content=wbstl-science) – a place where joy and nostalgia collide to create those hair-raising moments. Let us remind you of the magic…

There’s no doubt that the Studio Tour is an emotional experience, but the scientists wanted to dig deeper and reveal what exactly is behind that hard-to-describe feeling. To do this, they created a study which was the first of its kind – undertaken in a real-world attraction environment, rather than in a laboratory, to create a unique experiment. 

But how do you measure such an emotional response? By fitting the participants with some ingenious hand sensors that we’re sure Arthur Weasley would find absolutely fascinating!  

These sensors monitored their physiological responses, including heart rate and skin conductance (Galvanic Skin Response, or GSR). The latter measures small changes in sweat activity and is widely used to indicate emotional stimulation, making it useful for identifying those ‘goosebump moments’. 

The participants also rated the intensity of their feelings on a scale of one to five, allowing researchers to match what people felt with how their bodies reacted – spotting where those magical goosebumps really kicked in.  

So what was the outcome? Why not see the results for yourself…

Interestingly, the scientists discovered that it is rarely one emotion that causes that spine-tingling feeling, it’s a combination of multiple intense emotions. In fact, a total of seven were recorded, with joy and nostalgia taking top place as the feelings most often found alongside ‘goosebump’ moments and scoring the highest for intensity with a whopping 90%.  

As Professor Jonathan Freeman explained:  

> “What’s particularly interesting here is that much of the existing research on goosebump moments – known to scientists as ‘aesthetic chills’ – has tended to look at very short, isolated clips or musical excerpts, usually in tightly controlled lab settings. In contrast, this study examined responses within a more complex, multi-layered and genuinely immersive real-world environment”.

> “The Studio Tour offers a particularly strong context for this kind of work, as it brings together spectacle, narrative and culturally recognisable moments in a unique way that allows different emotional responses to emerge, accumulate and overlap.”

Indeed, in the experiment, participants were really feeling it. On the set of Destroyed Gringotts, the highest peaks in skin conductance were measured with immersion (80% intensity), excitement (80% intensity) and awe (60% intensity) reported as the main underlying feelings. In fact, one participant’s GSR rose to 99% above baseline as the fearsome Ukrainian Ironbelly dragon emerged from a cloud of smoke!

That wasn’t the only area of the Studio Tour that saw some strong emotional responses. The Great Hall – the room where Harry discovered his Hogwarts house and possibly the most recognisable of all the sets – saw the highest number of emotions reported. As participants walked into the set that unlocked plenty of magical memories, awe, joy, nostalgia and surprise were all present with an 80% intensity.

__Anjula Murali__ is joining the cast as Padma Patil, the twin sister of Gryffindor, Parvati Patil. __Aaron Zhao__ is also joining as Ravenclaw member of Harry’s year group, Terry Boot. While __Scarlett Archer__ is set to play Penelope Clearwater and __Eve Walls__ joins as Lisa Turpin. 

## Ambitiously joining Slytherin

__Oliver Croft__ is set to play Slytherin Quidditch team captain Marcus Flint. He is joined by Slytherin Chasers __D’Angelou Osei-Kissiedu__ as Graham Montague and __Dylan Heath__ as Adrian Pucey. __Cornelius Brandreth__ plays Seeker, Terence Higgs. While __Eddison Burch__ has been cast as Keeper, Miles Bletchley. __James Dowell__ is Lucian Bole and __Henry Medhurst__ is Peregrine Derrick, the team Beaters.

Finally, __Laila Barwick__ plays friend of Draco Malfoy, Pansy Parkinson.

The series will debut in 2027 on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max where it’s available, including recent launch markets Germany and Italy. It will also be available in the UK and Ireland, where the platform is confirmed to launch in late March.
