As Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions reaches book four, there's trouble ahead in the wizarding world. With the stories becoming darker and more mature, a new trio of performers, played by __Jaxon Knopf__, __Rhys Mulligan__ and __Nina-Francis Barker__, have joined the star-studded voice cast as Harry, Ron and Hermione.

With bags of talent and enthusiasm, they are well poised to take us through the rest of our favourite Gryffindors’ journey. On the eve of the *Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire* release, we were lucky enough to sit down and chat to them about everything from their audiobook experience to their love of the wizarding world.

But first, here’s an exclusive snippet of the trio in the recording studio...

### You are playing three very famous Gryffindors, but which Hogwarts house do you belong to? 

__Nina:__ When I took the test, I was Sorted into Gryffindor! Yeah, that was a fun quiz!  

__Jaxon:__ So, I did the test when I was younger as well and both times I’ve been placed in Gryffindor. However, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’ve always had something within me that wants to be part of Slytherin. 

__Rhys:__ You’ve said this before! I never got that! You’ve been given what everyone wants, to be Gryffindor, and then you’re like ‘I’ll just chuck it all away for Slytherin’. 

To be fair, I remember we were saying that on paper the traits for Slytherin are good, but most evil people have them. So, they’re good qualities… just don’t be evil Jaxon. 

__Nina:__ Yeah! Don’t be evil. 

__Rhys:__ Weirdly, I got Ravenclaw. I remember because I was annoyed that it wasn’t one of the two main houses that I had wanted when I was little. Although, when I was looking into it, I was very happy because it’s more about intelligence isn’t it? Which is quite nice – I do quite like that to be honest. It was a very nice boost to the ego.

### Tell us about the moment you found you had had got your role as a member of the iconic golden trio. Where were you and how did it feel? 

__Jaxon:__ I was at school and I was in the locker room. My mum called me on the phone, and she told me. Honestly? I was ecstatic. I was over the moon! I couldn’t show my emotions as I couldn’t tell anyone just yet. So, I was holding it in because otherwise my friends would have asked me what had happened. Obviously, it was an amazing feeling.  

Also, finding that out is quite scary because there's a lot of pressure on you to live up to the expectations of the fan base which is so massive. You want to be able to give new listeners of the story a strong performance, but you also want to give your own interpretation and your own little bit of characterisation. 

It was a lot of fun and there were so many different moments that you get to record. My favourite part was doing all the different spells. I think my favourite spell is probably Sectumsempra – the way it rolls off the tongue! 

__Rhys:__ Yeah, that’s some Basilisk talk there!  

For me, I was coming back from school, and my mum was like ‘look at your phone’. I got the email and I was losing it. It was so good! My mum knows me, she knows I would have reacted the same no matter where I was. So, she kind of had a serious face taking me to the car and then, once she shut the doors, she was like ‘Ok, you can open your phone now’. I was screaming. I was ecstatic. I was losing it!  

It was really good, but I think the most important part of the journey for me (like Jaxon was saying) was finding the balance. You’ve got two audiences that you’ve got to juggle with – the new and the old. You’ve got to pay respect to the characters and to the people who played the characters before because that’s what we all know. However, you also need to bring something new because it *is* new. With new media, new voices and new actors, I think it’s something really special. Listening to the first three? Honestly, it was the best experience ever. I really hope we’ve delivered to the same standard as they have because it’s brilliant and I’ve loved every second of it. It’s been amazing.

__Nina:__ I found out through my agent, and it was a real mix of shock and excitement. I don’t think I really believed it until I go to start the project and heard the other cast voicing their characters. I think the first person I got to hear was Daniel Mays as Dobby. At that moment I was like wow – we’re really doing this! Harry, Ron and Hermione are one of the most iconic friendships in literature. To have been able to bring that to life has been really special and such a fun experience.

### Next year it will be 30 years since the first Harry Potter book was published and this year marks the 25th anniversary of the first film. Obviously, Harry Potter has such an enduring legacy, but why do you think this is? Why do the Harry Potter stories remain so loved today? 

__Nina:__ I was saying to the guys before, I think what makes it so iconic for me is that the stories explore not just the battle between good and evil but the grey area in between. The goodies aren’t so good, and the baddies aren’t so bad after all. I think those layers are what makes the characters so relatable to people and what makes the stories so memorable.  

__Jaxon:__ Yeah, I totally agree. For me (and for a lot of people that I have spoken to), I really relate to the friendship of the trio and how core that is to the story. The loyalty that they have. They will stand up for each other no matter what. Yet, they have the strength within them to tell each other when they think something is not right and they’re not afraid to be honest. There are a lot of times when Hermione and Ron are telling Harry to chill out – just relax! He needs that. They’re his kind of anchors to the world. So, I feel like a lot of people can relate to their friendship and that’s one reason why people connect with it so well. 

__Rhys:__ What resonated with me were the parallels as a new actor trying to get into the acting industry. Acting is kind of a magical world that seems so out of reach. It seems almost like fiction to have a successful job and to be a well-known actor. I find that kind of links to the universe of Harry Potter. You have the Muggle world and the magical world and, in our world, so many people feel like they are forced to be a Muggle.  

It’s similar to how Uncle Vernon forces Harry to stay in the cupboard under the stairs and how Harry can’t try out or experience new things. Then Hagrid comes along (basically kidnaps him) and takes him away and shows him that magical world.  

To me, the main moral of the story of Harry Potter is you decide which universe you want to be in. You can choose which job you want. You can choose who you are – you just have to be open to new adventures. That’s been the main lesson I’ve learnt. Not only is it such a good series but it contains such good lessons – little gems hidden within the story. I’ve loved it ever since.

### If you had the opportunity to voice any character other than your own, which would it be and why? 

__Rhys:__ Jaxon, I know you, I know exactly what you’re about to say!  

__Jaxon:__ What is it?  

__Rhys and Nina:__ Dobby!  

__Jaxon:__ Yes! I would love just to be Dobby. He’s such a great character. He’s so sweet and he’s so endearing. He just wants the best for Harry – I just love him so much. 

__Nina:__ And you do a good Dobby. 

__Jaxon:__ Thank you! I have to say, Daniel Mays is absolutely brilliant. The things that he can do with his voice are mind-blowing. He’s fantastic.   

__Rhys:__ Yeah, he’s amazing. The thing is, this cast is just stacked with so many passionate people – such as Hugh Laurie. He has such a great take on Dumbledore – especially how he’s a lot more relaxed. Even with Matthew Macfayden as Voldemort, you have a softer spoken, more delicate interpretation… which I find even more bone chilling. It’s so scary to be that calm. The talent in the room is immense.  

I would like to have a crack at voicing Voldemort, but it’s already been cracked! It’s such an incredible performance – but I would like to give it a go!

__Nina:__ I’ve got two. I’d love to voice Ron because I feel like he has the funniest lines and also, Rhys, there was so much eating that you go to do! I wish I got to do more of that. Or I’d play Moaning Myrtle because I think she’s a really fun character as well. She’s so eccentric and she is who she is.

## There’s an accountant in the family…

The [Weasleys](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/the-weasleys) were a pure-blood family stretching back generations, but they did have a relative that worked a [Muggle](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/muggles) job! As [Ron](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/ron-weasley) briefly mentioned:

Yet, knowing that the Weasley family could have been considered one of the ‘Sacred Twenty-Eight’ (if they hadn’t rejected being part of something which aimed to maintain the ‘purity of their bloodlines’), we don’t think this relative was a Muggle. ## Whose daughter was almost a key character

Speaking of the elusive Weasley accountant, J.K. Rowling revealed that she had originally planned for him and his Muggle wife to have a daughter that turned out to be a witch. Having grown up in Muggle society, her parents wanted to help her get acquainted with the wizarding world – sending her to [The Burrow](/fact-file/locations/the-burrow) during the summer in *Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire*. Unfortunately, Mafalda didn’t have the same charm as the other members of the family and was ‘the most unpleasant child [Mrs Weasley](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/molly-weasley) has ever met’.

## Which Weasley twin was born first 

The Weasley twins were an inseparable pair but one of them did exist for a few minutes before the other was born! That twin? [Fred Weasley](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/fred-weasley)! The louder and slightly more dominant of the two, this makes total sense to us.

## Their legendary names

Whether it was intentional or not, there were many members of the Weasley family that had names which could be found in Arthurian legends. Obviously, there was [Arthur](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/arthur-weasley) – like the King Arthur who presided over Camelot and his round table of knights. One of his knights was called Percival – could that be where [Percy’s](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/percy-weasley) name inspiration came from? Then there’s [Ginny](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/ginny-weasley). Her first name, Ginevra, happens to be the Italian form of the name Guinevere – the famous queen of Arthurian legend. Finally, did you know that King Arthur had a spear called Rhongomynyad… like Ron? Food for thought…

## George had two children

That’s right! After leaving Hogwarts, [George](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/george-weasley) ended up marrying fellow member of the [Gryffindor](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/gryffindor) [Quidditch](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/quidditch) team, [Angelina Johnson](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/angelina-johnson). They ended up having two children, Fred and Roxanne.

## Percy ended up as the head of a Ministry department

As one of the most ambitious members of the Weasley family, it won’t come as a surprise to learn that Percy’s career soon surpassed writing reports on the thickness of [cauldron](/fact-file/objects/cauldron) bottoms. He worked his way up the [Ministry](/fact-file/locations/the-ministry-of-magic) ladder until he became the Head of the Department of Magical Transportation. ## The Weasleys were related to the Blacks

It’s true, the Gryffindor family had ties to the Slytherin household with [Sirius](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/sirius-black) informing Harry that he and Molly were ‘cousins by marriage and Arthur’s something like my second cousin once removed’. This connection was thanks to the grandchild of Phineas Nigellus Black, Cedrella Black, marrying Septimus Weasley. However, while both were from [pure-blood](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/pure-blood) families, the members of the [House of Black](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/the-black-family) were furious that Cedrella married into a family of ‘blood traitors’. They cast her out and burnt her name out of the Black family tapestry too.

Yet the demise of her poor rabbit actually happened *before* that date. So, we would put this down to another example of Sybill’s showmanship rather than any actual talent.

## Albanian

Kicking things off, the [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) houses look rather different in Albanian. Gryffindor becomes Grifarti, Hufflepuff is Baldoskuqi, Ravenclaw is Korbziu and Slytherin is known as Gjarpërblerti.

## Azerbaijani

In Azerbaijani, [Gryffindor](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/gryffindor) is only slightly different as Qriffindor. It’s a similar story for Hufflepuff and Slytherin which are Haflpaff and Slizerin. The house which appears to be most different is Ravenclaw which is Reyvnklou. 

## Brazilian Portuguese

In Brazil, the only house that sounds similar to the original English is Gryffindor which becomes Grifinória.  Despite their mascot being an eagle, [Ravenclaw](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/ravenclaw) becomes Corvinal – taking inspiration from the Latin word for Raven, corvinus. Slytherin is Sonserina. Our favourite of these translations has to be Hufflepuff which becomes the jolly sounding Lufa-Lufa!

## Czech

In Czech, [Slytherin](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/slytherin) becomes Zmijozel. With zmije being a Czech word for viper, it suits the serpent house perfectly. Gryffindor is known as Nebelvir. Ravenclaw is Havraspar. Finally, Hufflepuff becomes Mrzimor.  

## Dutch

The translations of the Hogwarts houses in Dutch are similar sounding to the English originals.  The translation of Gryffindor is Griffoendor, [Hufflepuff](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/hufflepuff) is known as Huffelpuf and Ravenclaw becoming Ravenklauw. The one which is the most different is Slytherin which becomes Zwadderich. 

## Finnish

As the house known for its bravery, it makes sense that the Finnish translation for Gryffindor, Rohkelikko, contains their word for courageous, rohkea. In this version, Slytherin is Luihuinen, Hufflepuff is Puuskupuh and Ravenclaw is known as Korpinkynsi.

## French

In French, Hufflepuff has what we think is the most adorable sounding translation becoming Poufsouffle! Interestingly, Ravenclaw is Serdaigle, which is taken from serre d'aigle and means eagle claw – matching their house mascot! Slytherin becomes Serpentard and Gryffindor is Gryffondor. 

## Hungarian

This is another language where the translation for Gryffindor seems fairly similar to the original English – Griffendél. The other houses do sound rather different with Ravenclaw becoming Hollóhát, Slytherin known as Mardekár and Hufflepuff as Hugrabug. 

## Italian

Another translation that uses a house mascot is the Italian version of Hufflepuff, Tassofrasso, with tasso meaning badger. Slytherin goes one step further, containing both the house’s colour and their mascot with Serpeverde – green snake. Gryffindor becomes Grifondoro and Ravenclaw is Corvonero.

## Latvian

In Latvia, the houses are also known by different names with Ravenclaw called Kraukļanagu, Gryffindor becoming Grifidoru, Elšpūti for Hufflepuff and Slīdeni for Slytherin.  

## Lithuanian

In Lithuanian, the name for Gryffindor isn’t just one word but two – Grifo Gūžta! Hufflepuff almost seems more Slytherin-esque as Švilpynė. Ravenclaw becomes Varnanagė. Last but not least, Slytherin becomes Klastūnynas. 

## Māori

In Māori, the translation for Slytherin is Nanakita, taking inspiration from the word nanakia, meaning crafty – fitting for the shrewd members of this house. The other houses are Kiritoa which is Gryffindor, Hahupahu which is Hufflepuff and Rawekoi which is Ravenclaw.

## Norwegian

Playing on their cunning house trait, the Norwegian translation of Slytherin, Smygard, contains their word for sneak, smyge. The other houses are different to the English versions with Ravenclaw as Ravnklo, Gryffindor as Griffing and Hufflepuff as Håsblås. 

## Serbian

In Serbian, while the house names have been changed from the original English, they are still recognisable. Ravenclaw is Rejvenklo, Hufflepuff is Haflpaf, Slytherin is Sliterin and Gryffindor is possibly the most similar as Grifindor. 

## Slovak

It’s a totally different case for the Slovak translations where the houses are almost totally unrecognisable! Gryffindor becomes Chrabromil, Hufflepuff is Bifl'omor, Ravenclaw is known as Bystrohlav and Slytherin is Slizolin. 

## Slovenian

Last, but by no means least, we have Slovenian where Gryffindor is Gryfondom, Ravenclaw is Drznvraan, Hufflepuff is Pihpuff and Slytherin is Spolzgad!

## March: As Ron Weasley learnt, be honest with your feelings when it comes to your love life

With his jealous outburst at the [Yule Ball](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/yule-ball) and his entire relationship with [Lavender Brown](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/lavender-brown) – we’re inclined to agree. If only he could have been more honest with Hermione, perhaps it wouldn’t have taken a dramatic final battle between good and evil to finally get him to open up.

We think this also applies to you. There have been far too many times where you have kept your feelings hidden, lost opportunities or ended up wondering about the ‘what ifs’. Speaking to the person you fancy is akin to your worst nightmare and just the thought of it makes you put your guard up.

This year, don’t let it get to the point where it takes a bottle of poisoned oak-matured mead to get you and your crush talking again. Take the initiative, be brave and tell them how you feel. You never know, they might just feel the same.

## April: You and Horace Slughorn could do with being a little more we and a little less me

With friends in high places and a lifetime supply of crystallised pineapple it appears he had it made.

This is something that you relate to. You’re the type of person who values connections, is always ‘networking’ and knows how to schmooze with the best of them.

Yet could you call any of these relationships a true friendship? Would they be there for you in a moment of crisis? Or, like when Slughorn was on the run, do you find yourself on your own? If there was anyone who understood the calming power of nature it was her. Despite working in a school full of teenagers, she remained unflappable.

If there was one thing that [Draco Malfoy](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/draco-malfoy) was an expert in, it was bragging. Whether it was his new [broomstick](/fact-file/objects/broomstick), [his father’s](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/lucius-malfoy) powerful connections or his belief in his superiority – he wouldn’t stop going on about it. Perhaps this is something you can see in yourself too?

You just can’t help but namedrop that celebrity you once bumped into. You’re unable to resist showing off the latest, expensive gadget that you bought. Plus, you have habit of trying get one up on those around you – you just want to be top dog.

However, this is a rather off-putting trait. It’s absolutely wonderful that you are so accomplished and you should absolutely be satisfied with yourself. However, if you only talk about *you*, people are going to stop caring about your achievements. This should be the year where you embrace humility. Keep shouting about your wins but remember to shine the spotlight on others too – there’s room for everyone to be a star.

## July: As Harry Potter needs to remember, it’s ok to put yourself first

[Harry Potter](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/harry-potter) would do absolutely anything for his loved ones – he was even willing to sacrifice himself to bring about the end of [Voldemort](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/lord-voldemort). Harry put others before himself and in a lot of ways, it’s incredibly admirable.

Nevertheless, being a people pleaser is not sustainable. It can also make you seem as though you have a bit of a… hero complex. As you’re someone who struggles with boundaries, having to be available every moment of the day could make you a bit resentful too.

We want you to remember that it is absolutely fine to sometimes put yourself first. It speaks to your wonderfully kind-hearted nature that you go above and beyond for your loved ones… but would they do the same for you? If you keep going this way, will you burn out? We don’t want you to suddenly become Scrooge – we just want to make sure that you are taking care of *you*.

## August: As Ginny Weasley proved, you can’t let one mistake define you

As mistakes go, opening [Tom Riddle’s diary](/fact-file/objects/tom-riddles-diary) and pouring your heart into it is a big one. Becoming known as the girl who reopened the [Chamber of Secrets](/fact-file/locations/the-chamber-of-secrets) is not the accolade you want – as [Ginny](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/ginny-weasley) unfortunately discovered.

We wouldn’t be surprised if just mentioning this incident has brought back painful memories for you too. Memories of the time that you messed up. Memories that keep you awake at night. Memories that make you want to hide away.

Do not let them. Instead, follow Ginny’s lead. She did not let one bad year define her. She dusted herself off and got back up again. ## September: You and Hermione Granger should make sure you don’t let work consume you

Like Hermione, you have incredibly high standards for yourself and refuse to do things by half measures. You’re often the first person to arrive at work at the last person to leave. Your mood is dictated by how well your latest project is going. Nobody would ever call you unreliable.

Don’t get us wrong, there’s nothing wrong with working hard to achieve your dreams. However, there *is* something wrong with letting it consume you and becoming your whole personality. ## October: Embrace the Molly Weasley vibe and get cooking

Daring and courage are your middle names. You look fear in the eye, and you never cower. You’re certainly not afraid to try something new. If we’re being honest, you are Harry’s godfather, [Sirius](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/sirius-black), are very much alike – always ready to leap into action.

However, from his schoolboy prank that almost killed Severus Snape to being spotted seeing Harry off on the [Hogwarts Express](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/hogwarts-express), Sirius was also reckless – and so are you. You have a habit of rushing into things without much thought and that can often leave you in hot water.

This is why we think you should work on the thinking side of things in 2026. ## December: You and Hagrid do not need another pet

However, that adoration can be your downfall. Like [Hagrid](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/rubeus-hagrid) convincing himself that it’s totally reasonable to raise a *dragon* in a *wooden* hut, you also get carried away when it comes to adding to your menagerie.

This year, your New Year’s resolution should be to not get another pet. You don’t need another cat, dog or goldfish – you have too many already! Yes, yes, they’re all adorable and we know it will be an extremely difficult challenge for you… but you can do it.

One thing we never saw in the Harry Potter films was Christmas dinner and, quite frankly, we were robbed…

Harry pulled a wizard cracker with Fred and it didn’t just bang, it went off with a blast like a cannon and engulfed them all in a cloud of blue smoke, while from the inside exploded a rear-admiral’s hat and several live, white mice. Up on the High Table, Dumbledore had swapped his pointed wizard’s hat for a flowered bonnet and was chuckling merrily at a joke Professor Flitwick had just read him.

## The Christmas presents Harry got from the Dursleys

A second, very small parcel contained a note. 

We received your message and enclose your Christmas present. From Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia. Sellotaped to the note was a fifty-pence piece. 

‘That’s friendly,’ said Harry.

50 pence, how… *generous*. At least [Ron](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/ron-weasley) found the Muggle coin fascinating! Although, it was better than the toothpick and single tissue they gave Harry in later years.

## Speaking of Christmas presents… Kreacher had an interesting one for Harry

Harry’s relationship with the [house-elf](/fact-file/creatures/house-elf) that he inherited was *complicated*. In what appeared to be a festive olive branch, [Kreacher](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/kreacher) sent his new master a Christmas present. However, we bet Harry wished he hadn’t.

‘I didn’t think of giving Kreacher anything! Do people usually give their house-elves Christmas presents?’ asked Harry, prodding the parcel cautiously.

‘Hermione would,’ said Ron. ‘But let’s wait and see what it is before you start feeling guilty.’ 

A moment later, Harry had given a loud yell and leapt out of his camp bed; the package contained a large number of maggots. 

‘Nice,’ said Ron, roaring with laughter. ‘Very thoughtful.’

## Percy Weasley and Rufus Scrimgeour gate-crashed The Burrow

Things were decidedly frosty between [Percy](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/percy-weasley) and the rest of the [Weasley family](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/the-weasleys) after [Voldemort’s](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/lord-voldemort) return to power. When he appeared at [The Burrow ](/fact-file/locations/the-burrow)on Christmas Day with the [Minister for Magic](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/minister-for-magic), we hoped it was some sort of attempt at a family reunion.

Rufus Scrimgeour paused in the doorway, leaning on his walking stick and smiling as he observed this affecting scene.

‘You must forgive this intrusion,’ he said, when Mrs Weasley looked round at him, beaming and wiping her eyes. ‘Percy and I were in the vicinity – working, you know – and he couldn’t resist dropping in and seeing you all.’ 

But Percy showed no sign of wanting to greet any of the rest of the family. He stood, poker-straight and awkward- looking, and stared over everybody else’s heads. Mr Weasley, Fred and George were all observing him, stony-faced.

Unfortunately, as demonstrated by Percy’s mashed-parsnip-splattered glasses, it wasn’t. Turns out it wasn’t the season of goodwill after all.
