Yes, whether it’s a tiny wood mouse or an enormous Erumpent – discover what that may say about you!  

With so many wonderful personalities reflected in nearly 150 possible Patronuses, there are some animal guardians that more people seem to gravitate towards. Out of them all, these were the ones to make the top 10 – can you spot yours on this list? 

## 10th: Basset Hound – Short but Mighty

__*Known for their impeccable sense of smell, this hound may have little legs, but lots of stamina. As with many dog breeds, the basset hound is steadfastly loyal and playful. Just what you need for a Patronus.*__

While the basset hound sits at number nine for Ravenclaw, and 10 for Gryffindor, it doesn’t creep into the Slytherin or Hufflepuff list of most popular Patronuses.

## 9th: Black and White Cat – Perfectly Charming

Mirroring the overall ranking, this dapper Patronus is ninth for Gryffindor. At number 10, it is less commonly found in Ravenclaw but takes seventh place for Hufflepuff. Curiously, you’re much less likely to come across a Slytherin with this Patronus – it’s the 47th most popular! 

## 8th: Hedgehog – Cute but Prickly

The humble hedgehog’s place remains the same for both Gryffindor and Ravenclaw but is 10th for Slytherin. However, they haven’t quite scrambled their way into the Hufflepuff list. 

## 7th: St Bernard Dog – Loyal Roots

This lovable dog is slightly more popular with Hufflepuff and Gryffindor – taking fifth and sixth place. It is the seventh most common Patronus in Ravenclaw but isn’t part of the Slytherin top 10. 

## 6th: Weasel – Savvy and Sleek

*__The nimble weasel is often depicted in culture as being a wily old thing. As someone with this Patronus, perhaps it speaks to your intelligent and perceptive nature? It also happened to be Arthur Weasley’s Patronus, so you’re in excellent company.__* 

Although known to be the Patronus of a well-loved Gryffindor, it’s actually the third most popular in Slytherin. It doesn’t quite make the Hufflepuff top 10 but is sixth for Ravenclaw and seventh for Gryffindor. 

## 5th: Nebelung Cat – Affectionate Ally

This purrfect pal also takes the fifth spot for Ravenclaw but is slightly higher for Gryffindor and Hufflepuff at number four. It is less common in Slytherin – breaking into the top 20 rather than 10. 

## 4th: Fox – Stealthy and Shrewd

*__Foxes are a widely known symbol of cunning and stealth. Highly adaptable, your Patronus has the ability to thrive anywhere. Interestingly, this wily creature happened to be the Patronus of Harry’s classmate, Seamus Finnigan: so you're in good company.__* 

The fox Patronus is favoured by Slytherin and Ravenclaw, taking second and third place (with their wily natures we totally get it). Although lower on the list, it is still quite common with those in Gryffindor and Hufflepuff, sitting in fifth and eighth place. 

## 3rd: Manx Cat – Gorgeous and Gregarious

At number eight, this is the only cat to feature in the Slytherin top 10! It’s much more popular with the other houses – fourth for Ravenclaw, third for Hufflepuff and second for Gryffindor. 

## 2nd: Tonkinese Cat – Classy Character

You won’t find it on the Slytherin list, but this charming cat is on the others – third for Gryffindor and second for both Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. 

## 1st: Dolphin – Instinctive and Intuitive

No matter the house, the playful dolphin took the top spot as the most popular Patronus – you have more in common than you think!

## What about the Hogwarts houses? 

As both your house and your Patronus reflect your personality, we’re not surprised to see that different houses find themselves drawn to different animals.  

Interestingly, all the most popular Patronuses are found in the [Gryffindor](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/gryffindor) and [Ravenclaw](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/ravenclaw) rankings – though the order is a little different.  

Yet, the story isn’t the same when it comes to [Hufflepuff](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/hufflepuff) and [Slytherin](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/slytherin). In fact, only half make the Slytherin top 10 – turns out they’re much less keen on cats! 

So, which Patronuses do these houses gravitate towards? Let’s see…

# Slytherin  

## 9th: Buzzard – Visionary Voyager

*__This bird of prey likes to glide and soar through the sky using its dark-tipped wings, hunting down dinner. Buzzards have a diverse palate and know how to conserve their energies. Does your Patronus' no-nonsense attitude resonate with you?__* 

This Patronus is found nowhere near as often with the other houses – it’s number 68 in Hufflepuff! It is slightly higher in Gryffindor in 53rd in place and 43rd for Ravenclaw. 

## 7th: Magpie – Sociable Collector

*__These birds are most known for being collectors of shiny objects (very Niffler coded). They’re also social and chatter to each other. Interestingly, Fred and George both had this Patronus, which complements their personalities.__* 

At number 85 on Hufflepuff’s list, it seems the Patronuses that call to them are very different to the ones favoured by Slytherin. Again, there are slightly more in Gryffindor and Ravenclaw – taking the 50th and 45th spots. 

## 6th: Wild Rabbit – Bright-eyed Bouncer

*__The humble rabbit is a gregarious creature, often found working together in groups. Despite being a relatively mild-mannered animal, they have clever survival methods. After all: there’s a quiet ferocity in gentleness.__* 

This Patronus is more than a hop away when it comes to the other houses, sitting at number 30 for Gryffindor and Ravenclaw and 49 for Hufflepuff. 

## 5th: White Swan – Graceful Guardian

Interestingly, this Patronus is just outside of the top 10 for Ravenclaw and Gryffindor in 14th and 16th place. It is much further down Hufflepuff’s list at number 44. 

## 4th: Eagle – Swift and Mighty

Although it is the symbol of Ravenclaw, it is only 39th in terms of popularity among that house. This is still higher than 42nd for Gryffindor and 79th for Hufflepuff!

# Hufflepuff 

## 10th: White Stallion and 9th: White Mare – Triumphant Steed

*__The white mare/stallion is known to be highly intelligent, with a long-standing relationship with humans. White horses have become mythologised in many cultures, often portrayed as a 'saviour' figure – which is quite fitting for a Patronus, wouldn't you say?__*

While the white mare takes 25th and 22nd place for Gryffindor and Ravenclaw and the stallion sits at number 24 and 21, it is nowhere near as common in Slytherin. The white stallion is 69th and the mare is 70th. 

## 6th: Siberian Cat – Fluffy and Fearless

This Patronus is not too far from the Ravenclaw top 10 at number 11 and is number 17 for Gryffindor. Once again, Slytherin prove they aren’t too keen on cats, as this Patronus takes 48th place.

## Dr Filibuster’s Fabulous, Wet-Start, No-Heat Fireworks

We all remember these magical fireworks due to Fred and George’s love of them: fireworks that never seem to stop exploding – or at least on one occasion for ‘at least half an hour’. 

It wasn’t until a long while later that we realised that a ‘filibuster’ is a political tactic, where a speaker delivers a time-wasting speech that doesn’t feel like it’s ever going to end. These ceaseless fireworks were made by one ‘Dr Filibuster’ – coincidence? 

## Roonil Wazlib 

We’ve all had our names misspelt before, right? Forms, coffee cups, birthday cards... but maybe not quite as dramatic as the great Roonil Wazlib.

Thanks to one of Fred and George’s [useful joke shop products](https://www.harrypotter.com/fact-file/locations/weasleys-wizard-wheezes), a Spell-Checking quill with its charm wearing off, Ron inadvertently created the best nickname ever. Although it positively ruined one of Ron’s essays, it did later come in handy for Harry, pretending he was the great Roonil Wazlib to avoid a textbook faux pas with Snape. 

‘This is the copy of Advanced Potion-Making that you purchased from Flourish and Blotts?’ 

‘Yes,’ said Harry firmly. 

‘Then why,’ asked Snape, ‘does it have the name “Roonil Wazlib” written inside the front cover?’ 

Harry’s heart missed a beat. 

‘That’s my nickname,’ he said.

Happily, Roonil Wazlib had a shelf life outside of the Harry Potter books – with the iconic monicker becoming a meme amongst the fans forever more. Long live Roonil!  

## Professor Binns never getting anyone’s name right  

The novelty of having a ghost teach a Hogwarts subject quickly wore off for Harry and his school-friends, after discovering Professor Binns’ [History of Magic](https://www.harrypotter.com/fact-file/magical-miscellany/history-of-magic) classes were not exactly stimulating, Perhaps the only interesting thing about them is that Binns never got anyone’s names right at all – you can find multiple examples of this across the books. 

‘But, sir,’ said Seamus Finnigan, ‘if the Chamber can only be opened by Slytherin’s true heir, no one else would be able to find it, would they?’ 

‘Nonsense, O’Flaherty,’ said Professor Binns in an aggravated tone. ‘If a long succession of Hogwarts headmasters and headmistresses haven’t found the thing –’ 

‘But, Professor,’ piped up Parvati Patil, ‘you’d probably have to use Dark Magic to open it –’ 

‘Just because a wizard doesn’t use Dark Magic, doesn’t mean he can’t, Miss Pennyfeather,’ snapped Professor Binns.

In Binns’ defence, he is still working despite being dead, so you can maybe forgive him for not being entirely on his A-game.  

## Merlin’s many... things

For reasons only wizards and witches may know, it has become common parlance in the wizarding world to use “Merlin’s..." as an exclamation. Perhaps a nod to some of our idiosyncratic British phrases, such as Flaming Nora and Gordon Bennett. (Look them up, seriously.)

Usually, when shocked or surprised by something, a witch or wizard may opt for a nice, innocent, “Merlin’s beard”. But we have seen more upscaled versions. Never forget Hermione’s controversial, “Merlin’s pants!” - could it ever get more scandalous than that? 

Well, yes.  

‘We are holding your brother’s wedding here in a few days’ time, young man –’ 

‘And are they getting married in my bedroom?’ asked Ron furiously. ‘No! So why in the name of Merlin’s saggy left –’

## Weatherby! 

It feels only apt that the Weasley family have infiltrated many of the moments on this list. But now, here’s one from an unlikely source: poor Percy. 

‘Oh,’ said Mr Crouch, looking over at Percy in mild surprise. 

‘Yes – thank you, Weatherby.’ 

Fred and George choked into their own cups. Percy, very pink around the ears, busied himself with the kettle.

Determined to impress his boss at the Ministry, Percy was instead left to reconcile with the fact Mr Crouch barely knew his name, earning him the new one of Weatherby. And it wasn’t just one time. For the entire of *Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire*, Percy is called Weatherby at every opportune moment – and of course, Fred and George are only happy to join in.

Okay, one more Weasley submission for the road. The Weasley twins, of course, [were no strangers to a good laugh](https://www.harrypotter.com/features/debate-club-who-was-funnier-fred-or-george-weasley) – but we particularly enjoyed this more subtle endeavour of theirs – a strange dedication to toilet seats. 

In the first instance we meet them, Fred and George console their weeping sister Ginny by saying they’ll send her a Hogwarts toilet seat as they part ways. But this isn’t the only time the Weasley twins employ toilet seats as an off-piste replacement for a greeting card. When Harry wakes up in the hospital wing at the end of *Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone*...

He was lying in a bed with white line sheets and next to him was a table piled high with what looked like half the sweet-shop. 
‘Tokens from your friends and admirers,’ said Dumbledore, beaming. ‘What happened down in the dungeons between you and Professor Quirrell is a complete secret, so, naturally, the whole school knows. I believe your friends Misters Fred and George Weasley were responsible for trying to send you a lavatory seat. No doubt they thought it would amuse you. Madam Pomfrey, however, felt it might not be very hygienic, and confiscated it.’

As the wise [Albus Dumbledore](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/albus-dumbledore) once said: *‘It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.’* Throughout the Harry Potter stories, we saw that sentiment in action as the characters faced all sorts of decisions. Whether they ended up making wise choices? Now that’s the real question. 

And who better to answer that question than you, the fans! We asked you to tell us your most unpopular opinions about the decisions that the Harry Potter characters made... and your responses did not disappoint.  

From your strong views on fashion choices to what you would have done differently with the [Elder Wand](/fact-file/objects/the-elder-wand), we were inundated with insightful answers. Here are a few of our favourites… 

## You weren’t sure about Harry’s name choices 

Quite a few of you were really not on board with the name [Harry](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/harry-potter) settled on for his middle child – [Albus Severus Potter](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/albus-potter). 

Many were in disbelief at *‘The fact he tolerated Severus so quickly and named his son after him’* and incredulous at the thought of *‘SNAPE BEING THE BRAVEST MAN HARRY EVER KNEW’*. 

We can see why – [Snape](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/severus-snape) was the definition of ambiguous. The way he treated Harry, and his previous support of [Voldemort](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/lord-voldemort), were inexcusable. Yet, the way he gave everything to protect [Lily’s](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/lily-potter) son, including his life, was heroic.

## Hagrid’s pink umbrella should have had an upgrade 

It appears that some of you thought, while his magical pink umbrella was an excellent fashion choice, [Hagrid](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/rubeus-hagrid) should have been given a second chance at a magical education.   

As __Cynda Min__ told us: *‘I think Hagrid should have gotten some equivalent of a magical GED. He deserves a new wand and to be fully certified or whatever it is.’* 

After helping to protect Harry, being part of the effort to bring down Voldemort and becoming a [Care of Magical Creatures](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/care-of-magical-creatures) teacher, we think he deserved one too! We love the idea of Hagrid finally getting a chance to return to [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) and getting the full, magical experience he deserved.

## Harry shouldn’t have looked a gift horse in the mouth 

If there was one opinion that kept coming up, it was how many of you believed that if Harry had chosen to unwrap a particular gift, [Sirius](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/sirius-black) might have avoided his tragic fate.

The gift in question? A [two-way mirror](/fact-file/objects/two-way-mirror) through which Harry and Sirius could talk to one another.  

It’s a valid point! If Harry had remembered the mirror, he might have got in contact with Sirius. He may have seen that his godfather was not in the [Department of Mysteries](/fact-file/locations/the-department-of-mysteries). Perhaps he would have avoided that awful trap? Although we will never know, it shows that even the smallest choice can have a huge impact.

## There were your thoughts on Dobby’s fashion 

We think [Dobby](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/dobby) was a fashion icon – who else could turn odd socks, football shorts and a tea-cosy into a look? Turns out, not everyone holds the same opinion.

Yeah, we agree that his rags had seen better days. Although, to be fair to our favourite [house-elf](/fact-file/creatures/house-elf), it wasn’t as though he left the [Malfoy’s](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/the-malfoys) with a full wardrobe. Dobby had to start from nothing – so he probably didn’t have many options.

## Some of you had a different vision for the Elder Wand 

*‘Harry should have kept the Elder Wand’* was something we heard a lot. After all, it was one of the [Deathly Hallows](/fact-file/objects/the-deathly-hallows)! It was unbeatable! Plus, having it would make you look very cool.  

However, should anyone truly possess that much power? Would you be able to handle the responsibility without it corrupting you? Or would it just mean more devastation was inevitable down the line?

## Hermione should have kept hold of one particular object 

It became clear that many of you would have made a different choice to [Hermione](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/hermione-granger) at the end of *Prisoner of Azkaban*. 

As __elianamrodriguez96__ told us: *‘I wouldn’t have returned the [Time-Turner](/fact-file/objects/time-turner)’*. 

We understand the temptation; time is a powerful thing and being able to move through it sounds incredible. It can also be extremely dangerous – one mistake could have catastrophic effects. Hermione returning it was probably the sensible choice… but not the easy one.

## Some of you imagined Harry’s future a little differently 

Many of you believed that, after saving the world as a teenager, Harry deserved to live a stress-free life. So, his eventual career choice was questionable at best.  

__jessica.pearson.1023611__ was one such person: *‘I think Harry should have become a professional Quidditch player. He did enough Dark wizard catching as a kid. He needed to have some fun.’* 

It’s true, The Boy Who Lived. The Chosen One. For too long Harry had to carry the weight of the wizarding world on his shoulders. His choice to become an [Auror](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/auror) was incredibly noble but, again, Harry would have had a lot of responsibility.

__frejaotoolee__ could also see Harry taking to the skies but had another interesting career suggestion: *‘Harry becoming an Auror?? He should’ve been a DADA teacher or a professional Quidditch player.’*

You know what, we see it. [Defence Against the Dark Arts](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/defence-against-the-dark-arts) was always Harry’s strong suit. Not only did he have the wisdom gained from plenty of hands-on experience, but he also had the skills to be an excellent teacher – his tenure as leader of [Dumbledore’s Army](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/dumbledores-army) proved that.

## Some spell choices were questionable  

Harry’s signature spell was clearly [Expelliarmus](/fact-file/spells/the-disarming-charm), and it did get him out of quite a few life-or-death situations. Yet, it seems [Remus Lupin](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/remus-lupin) wasn’t the only person to question when and where Harry chose to use such a spell.   

__Stephen Deck__ couldn’t believe that: *‘Harry will attack Malfoy with Sectumsempra, but only attempt to disarm Voldemort, who slew his parents and attempted to conquer the wizarding world.’*.

When you put it like that it does seem rather odd. While Harry using Sectumsempra was a terrible decision, he didn’t know what would happen when it was cast. Incredibly foolish of him, but this moment was the exception not the rule. Throughout the series, Harry consistently chose to use defensive, rather than destructive, magic – which is testament to his strength of character.

## Voldemort didn’t think things through… 

There were quite a few of you who raised an interesting point about Voldemort’s approach to choosing [Horcruxes](/fact-file/objects/horcrux). 

With many, including __Tristan Mathieson__, believing it to be entirely wrong: *‘Voldemort making his Horcruxes extremely important magical artefacts instead of just random pebbles and pennies is the reason he lost, and he deserved it.’*

A solid strategy… you would be less likely to notice one, nondescript pebble than a [golden, one-of-a-kind cup](/fact-file/objects/hufflepuffs-cup). Voldemort would never have gone for it though. A piece of his precious soul concealed in something so mundane? His ego wouldn’t have allowed it.

## Finally, things could be a little bit easier if a certain potion was used 

__Kevin Norcross__ strongly disagreed with *‘The wizarding court system for not using [Veritaserum](/fact-file/plants-and-potions/veritaserum) on witnesses and suspects’*. 

Yeah, being liberal with a certain truth potion could be an effective shortcut – it would definitely make [Ministry](/fact-file/locations/the-ministry-of-magic) hearings easier. The problem is, forcing someone to tell the truth by magical means is akin to taking away their free will. Can that ever be justified? And once it began, where would it end?

## The guest list  
Before there can be any party, there must be a guest list – that alone can make or break an event. [Harry](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/harry-potter) tended to have rather rubbish birthdays when he was with the Dursleys, but things significantly improved when he could celebrate with his favourite people. Our first party tip? Don’t create a party full of [Muggles](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/muggles) that get you down – fill it with people who will help bring the magic.  

Speaking of which, you have to actually invite the guests. While there are many ways to do this (though we wouldn’t recommend [owl post](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/owl-post)), there is one wizarding invitation that trumps them all… the [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) acceptance letter. Imagine your guests’ faces as they open your invitation that seems like one of their very own – we’d bet [Galleons](/fact-file/objects/wizarding-money) that you wouldn’t get a single no.

## Every party needs a theme 

Isn’t Harry Potter a theme on its own? Absolutely! A Potter party combining all your favourite things into some sort of wizarding world mashup would be spectacular. Yet, as the wizarding world is *so* vast and varied, it would be equally cool to home in on a particular element.  

Such as the Hogwarts houses. Bedeck every available space in the house colours, encourage some friendly competition and give every guest the opportunity to show off their house pride.

Or if you want your party to be a little bit more lowkey, a birthday at [The Burrow](/fact-file/locations/the-burrow) would be the cutest theme! Right at the other end of the scale, if you’re into spookiness, jump scares and wear a lot of black, the [Dark Arts](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/dark-arts) would be a thrilling theme for your birthday. With [Dark Marks](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/the-dark-mark) and [Death Eaters](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/death-eaters), your soiree will be a haunting memory for many – which is just the way you want it. 

## Decorations  

Once you’ve got your theme locked down, it’s time to think about bringing it to life with some carefully curated party decorations. ## Let them eat cake 
A birthday party without a birthday cake is simply just a party – it’s a critical (and delicious) component. Although Harry’s formative years were sadly cake-less, things changed once he joined the wizarding world… immediately in fact. Anyway, it turns out there are plenty of wizarding bakes to be inspired by! 

When [Hagrid](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/rubeus-hagrid) burst into the Hut-on-the-Rock, armed with a pink cake with ‘Happee Birthdae Harry’ in bright green and a huge secret, Harry’s life changed forever. While we’re not saying you should have a dour Dursley-themed party (or hide cake under the floorboards), it could be fun to emulate the year of four birthday cakes! Like Harry’s friends sent them to him, your friends could each bring a different cake to your party – wizarding bake-off anyone?

## It’s all fun and games 

There are so many fun ways to add a wizarding twist to your party games – here are a few to spark your imagination. 

The first thing to happen when a new pupil arrives at Hogwarts is their [Sorting](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/the-sorting-ceremony). You could do the same as your guests arrive at your party, perhaps by pulling their house from a magical-looking hat? Making things a little more musical, imagine how epic it would be to have a wand battle dance-off. Channel your favourite character, throw some excellent wand shapes and add your own flair. If you’re more of a reserved music lover, you could play musical statues to the incredible Harry Potter film score. 

Finally, you can’t go wrong with the basics. For example, swap your very Muggle ‘pin the tail on the donkey’ for the very magical (and trickier) ‘pin the heads on [Fluffy](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/fluffy-fact-file)’. If you keep an open mind, you’ll find magic even in the most Muggle of places. Plan your party with that attitude and it’s bound to be a rip-roaring success.

## 10th: Lion and 9th: Lioness – Roarsome Royalty

You probably won’t be surprised to hear that the lion is not one of the 10 rarest Patronuses in [Gryffindor](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/gryffindor). Although, you might be surprised that's also the case for [Slytherin](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/slytherin). It creeps into the [Ravenclaw](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/ravenclaw) list at number 10 and is the eighth rarest Patronus in [Hufflepuff](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/hufflepuff). 

Interestingly, the lioness is a slightly different story. It is not on the Ravenclaw or Slytherin list, but it is the eighth rarest for Gryffindor and seventh for Hufflepuff.  

## 8th: Abraxan Winged Horse – Proud and Powerful

__*The Abraxan is a breed of magical winged horse, one of a few types in the wizarding world. This particular type pulls the Beauxbatons school carriage, so they are suitably majestic looking and even drink whisky.*__ 

While this powerful protector is eighth overall, it is not quite as uncommon in Gryffindor and Slytherin – taking 10th and ninth place. You are even more likely to find a Hufflepuff with this Patronus as it doesn’t make it into their rarest top 10. However, at number five, you will find less Ravenclaws are drawn to this Patronus.  

## 7th: Seal – Fearlessly Theatrical

__*They might be more clumsy than graceful when stuck on land, but when a seal is in the water? That’s a different story. Seals glide, twirl and dive through water with ease. As a Patronus, a seal could use its splashy skills to dazzle anybody.*__ 

At number 13 for Slytherin, the seal isn’t on their list of rarest Patronuses. However, in sixth, fourth and third place, that isn’t the same for Ravenclaw, Gryffindor and Hufflepuff. 

## 6th: Tiger and 5th: Tigress – Wild Majesty

While this big cat is not one of the 10 most uncommon Patronuses in Hufflepuff, it is the third rarest in Slytherin. You’ll find a few more tigers in Gryffindor and Ravenclaw – taking seventh and ninth place. 

This is similar for the tigress. Again, it is not on the Hufflepuff list but is the rarest Slytherin Patronus. Pretty uncommon for Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, it makes their top 10 in sixth and eighth position. 

## 4th: Albatross – Dynamic and Free

You will find this seafaring bird on every house’s list. It just makes the cut in Hufflepuff as their 10th rarest. Yet, you will find slightly less of them in the other three – seventh place for Ravenclaw, sixth for Slytherin and fifth for Gryffindor.  

## 3rd: Impala – Lithe Leaper

At number three, Gryffindor and Ravenclaw mirror the overall ranking of rarest Patronuses. You’ll find a handful more impalas in Slytherin and Hufflepuff, as they take fourth and sixth place. 

## 2nd: Vulture – Poise and Patience

There aren't many Gryffindors with this dignified Patronus – it happens to be their rarest form. In line with the overall ranking, it is number two for Ravenclaw but fifth for Hufflepuff and Slytherin.  

## 1st: Erumpent – Epic and Thunderous

The larger-than-life Erumpent might take the top spot on the overall rank of rarest Patronuses but not when it comes to the houses. In second place, it just misses the top spot for Gryffindor and Slytherin. It only just makes it into the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw top 10 at number nine.

## What about the Hogwarts houses? 

As both your house and your Patronus reflect your personality, we’re not surprised to see that different houses find themselves drawn to different animals.  

This is certainly the case when it comes to the 10 rarest Patronuses. From their rankings to what form they take – each house has their own distinct list.

# Hufflepuff  

## 4th: Leopard and 2nd: Leopardess – Fierce and Fast

These speedy cats are right near the top of the Hufflepuff list, with the leopard in fourth place and the leopardess in second. Curiously, it does not make any other top 10. Both the leopard and leopardess sit outside the 20 rarest Slytherin Patronuses in 22nd and 23rd place. The leopard is the 11th and 14th rarest for Gryffindor and Ravenclaw while the leopardess is 12th for Gryffindor and 13th for Ravenclaw. 

## 1st: Shark – A Dominant Force

This mighty Patronus isn’t just slightly unusual for Hufflepuff – it swims into the top spot as their rarest.

## 9th: Shark – A Dominant Force 

One of the rarer Gryffindor Patronuses, this toothsome creature takes ninth place. At number 12, you will see a few more in Ravenclaw and more again in Slytherin, as it’s their 21st rarest.

## 10th: Elephant – Majestic and Memorable

You won’t find the elephant in the Gryffindor top 10 – it's their 16th rarest Patronus. The same goes for Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw where it takes 19th place.

## 8th: Cheetah – Stealthy and Speedy

This ferociously fast cat just breaks into the top 20 unusual Patronuses for Gryffindor and Hufflepuff. It is slightly rarer in Ravenclaw at number 17. 

## 7th: Python – Unyielding and Powerful

We were quite shocked to see a snake on the list of unusual Patronuses for Slytherin. Intriguingly, it is more popular in the other houses. It is the 18th rarest for Gryffindor and Hufflepuff and 15th for Ravenclaw.

## 7th: Runespoor – Triple Threat

For a house that is all about the mind, it is funny to see that this three-headed snake is their seventh rarest Patronus. It is only slightly more common in Gryffindor and Hufflepuff in 14th and 12th place. Interestingly, it is only the 30th rarest Patronus for Slytherin.

## Did you know? 

In the wizarding world, Patronuses that take the form of magical creatures are considered extremely rare… but is that the same in our Muggle world?  

With a few as possible outcomes for your own Patronus, we thought it would be interesting to look at a handful of these magical creatures and just how popular they are. 

## Dragon – Ferociously Fiery

Probably the first magical creature to spring to mind, this fiery friend is nowhere near the top of the rarest Patronus list for Slytherin – it’s only 113th! It is middle-of-the-road for Gryffindor and Ravenclaw in 73rd and 43rd place and far more uncommon in Hufflepuff in 25th position.  

## Unicorn – Rare and Mysterious

__*This grand, mythological beast has been a mainstay in folklore for centuries. Yet, they like to avoid human contact – fitting for a Patronus that is exceedingly rare in the magical world. A Patronus as mystical as it is impressive.*__ 

This beautiful Patronus is one of the less common Patronuses found among the houses – it even breaks into the Slytherin top 20. In 26th place, it is not quite as unusual to see this form in Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. It sits at number 27 for Hufflepuff.

## Thestral – All-Seeing and All-Knowing

You are likely to find quite a few Thestral Patronuses among the Slytherins – it is only the 94th most uncommon. In 49th, 44th and 37th place there are not as many in Ravenclaw, Gryffindor and Hufflepuff.
