From Tom Riddle to Newt Scamander, we have tried to find all the Hogwarts houses for the grown-up characters (where it is known). A quick note, while there might appear to be some characters missing, like quite a few Death Eaters who you might think have Slytherin ties, their houses were never actually confirmed…

__Albus Dumbledore –__ The twinkly-eyed professor was a proud member of [Gryffindor](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/gryffindor) house. 

__Tom Riddle –__ The boy that grew up to become Voldemort and unleashed horror on the wizarding world, started his journey in [Slytherin](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/slytherin).

__Minerva McGonagall –__ We doubt you would be surprised to know that the Head of Gryffindor house was, in fact, a Gryffindor.

__Severus Snape –__ The Potions Master, double agent and thorn in Harry’s side, also happened to be Head of Slytherin making him Slytherin - *obviously*.

__Pomona Sprout –__ The no-nonsense but fair Herbology professor with the flyaway hair was a [Hufflepuff](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/hufflepuff) and head of that house. 

__Filius Flitwick –__ The cheerful Charms professor was a talented wizard and Ravenclaw. He also happened to be the Head of [Ravenclaw](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/ravenclaw) house.

__James Potter –__ One quarter of the [Marauders](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/marauders) and the father of Harry Potter, James was a proud member of Gryffindor and Seeker for their Quidditch team. 

__Lily Potter –__ She might have been one of Head of Slytherin, Horace Slughorn’s, favourite students, but Lily was in fact a Gryffindor.

__Sirius Black –__ Sirius was known for being a rebel and that extended to rebelling against his family’s long tradition of being sorted into Slytherin when he ended up as a Gryffindor

__Peter Pettigrew –__ Wormtail was a Hatstall. The [Sorting Hat](/fact-file/objects/the-sorting-hat) took over five minutes to decide which house he should go in, before eventually deciding on Gryffindor.

__Remus Lupin –__ Harry’s favourite Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher was also a member of Gryffindor. 

__Horace Slughorn –__ The jolly Potions professor and founder of the Slug Club was a Slytherin. He had even been Head of Slytherin.

__Rubeus Hagrid –__ Our favourite half-giant and [Care of Magical Creatures](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/care-of-magical-creatures) teacher was a member of Gryffindor house.

__Gilderoy Lockhart –__ Author, memory stealer and terrible [Defence Against the Dark Arts](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/defence-against-the-dark-arts) teacher, Gilderoy Lockhart, was a member of Ravenclaw. 

__Phineas Nigellus Black –__ The least popular Headmaster of Hogwarts and Sirius Black’s ancestor was a Slytherin.

__Quirinus Quirrell –__ Don’t be fooled by Quirrell’s seemingly timid disposition. Behind that façade is a ready mind and one that belonged to Ravenclaw.

__Dolores Umbridge –__ A character that still makes us shudder, before she was terrorising Hogwarts with her Educational Decrees, she had been a Hogwarts student herself as part of Slytherin house. 

__Silvanus Kettleburn –__ As the former Care of Magical Creature teacher, Kettleburn left Hogwarts before he lost anymore limbs and was a Hufflepuff. 

__Sybill Trelawney –__ The divisive [Divination](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/divination) teacher was part of the house of wit and wisdom. Trelawney was a Ravenclaw. 

__Arthur Weasley –__ Ministry worker, father and fan of the rubber duck, Arthur Weasley was a Gryffindor – along with the rest of his family

__Molly Weasley –__ The matriarch of the Weasley family, Molly was also a Gryffindor like the rest of the flame-haired bunch.

__Bill Weasley –__ Bill might have been one of the Weasley siblings, but this Cursebreaker was already a grown up when the books started and belonged in Gryffindor.

__Charlie Weasley –__ Another Weasley that was already an adult when the books began. Charlie also happened to be the Head of Gryffindor Quidditch team making him, you guessed it, a Gryffindor.

__Nymphadora Tonks –__ An Auror with a penchant for punky clothes and colourful hair was a Hufflepuff – unlike her Slytherin mother. 

__Garrick Ollivander –__ Everyone at Hogwarts got their wand from [Ollivanders](/fact-file/locations/ollivanders) but we’re curious, what house did this well-respected wandmaker belong to when he was at Hogwarts? The answer to that is Ravenclaw.

__Godric Gryffindor –__ One of the four founders of Hogwarts, Godric *Gryffindor* was obviously a Gryffindor – he created the house!

__Salazar Slytherin –__ The founder with the surname Slytherin, was in fact a Slytherin – possibly one of the slipperiest of Slytherins too. 

__Helga Huflepuff –__ Again, the name gives it away. Helga was one of the four founders and the house she created was Hufflepuff.

__Rowena Ravenclaw –__ Another Hogwarts founder and owner of the infamous diadem, Rowena Ravenclaw founded, well, Ravenclaw. 

__Nearly Headless Nick –__ Otherwise known as Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington, the ghost of Gryffindor house and former member of Henry VII’s royal court was a Gryffindor.

__Fat Friar –__ The jolly ghost was welcoming to all students at Hogwarts, which seems rather fitting for the ghost of Hufflepuff. 

__Helena Ravenclaw –__ As the daughter of the founder of Ravenclaw, we would be surprised if Helena was in a different house to her mother. But seems she did follow in her mother’s footsteps as a Ravenclaw.

__The Bloody Baron –__ The intimidating ghost with a nasty backstory, was the ghost of Slytherin house.

__Moaning Myrtle –__ Ok, she might have still been a pupil when she was killed, but she had been haunting Hogwarts for a good 50 years before we met her – so we’ll count Myrtle in this list. When this gloomy ghost was alive, she was part of Ravenclaw house. 

__Xenophilius Lovegood –__ Luna Lovegood was one of our favourite Ravenclaws and her eccentric father and editor of [*The Quibbler*](/fact-file/objects/the-quibbler) belonged to that house too.

__Bellatrix Lestrange –__ Voldemort’s most loyal Death Eater and member of the [Black family](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/the-black-family) followed in their footsteps as a Slytherin.

__Andromeda Tonks –__ The sister of Bellatrix and Narcissa managed to break away from the Black family in her later years but was a Slytherin like her siblings.

__Narcissa Malfoy –__ Narcissa Malfoy’s love of Pure-Blood supremacy was only superseded by her love for her son, Draco. And like Malfoy, she was also a Slytherin.

__Lucius Malfoy –__ Death Eater, Ministry employee and father to Draco Malfoy, Lucius was a member of Slytherin like the rest of his family. 

__Regulus Black –__ The younger brother of Sirius and Death Eater who had doubts was a Slytherin like the majority of the Black family. 

__Newt Scamander –__ This Magizoologist with his briefcase full of fantastic creatures was a hero – and a Hufflepuff one at that.

__Leta Lestrange –__ Newt Scamander’s close friend was a bit of an enigma, but her Hogwarts house was no mystery. She was a Slytherin.

Debate club: Who was the funniest Weasley twin – Fred or George?

__*Oh, and watch where you step. This article contains spoilers from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.*__

## George was the funniest Weasley twin
There is no competition. [George](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/george-weasley) was the Weasley twin blessed with the superior sense of humour. Don’t get us wrong, [Fred](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/fred-weasley) was obviously funny too – you can’t be born on April Fool’s Day and not be an excellent laugh – George just had the edge.

We do understand why you might automatically think that Fred was the wittier twin. After all, he was the more outgoing of the two. When you reread the stories, you notice that he was mentioned more than his twin – 905 times in comparison to George’s 731. However, being more confident and doesn’t necessarily make you funnier. As George often proved.

Look closely, and you’ll notice that George said a lot of the twins most hilarious lines. The pair may have been very similar, but George had more of a knack for words and an observational style of comedy. His one-liners were unparalleled – from his hilarious reaction to his and Fred’s Weasley jumpers:

‘You haven’t got a letter on yours,’ George observed. ‘I suppose she thinks you don’t forget your name. But we’re not stupid – we know we’re called Gred and Forge.’

To making the horror of the [Chamber of Secrets](/fact-file/locations/the-chamber-of-secrets) a little less scary: 

‘Yeah, he’s nipping off to the Chamber of Secrets for a cup of tea with his fanged servant’

George’s ability to bring lightness to any situation was unmatched. After all, this was the twin who lost an ear but still immediately managed to joke about it: 

‘How do you feel, Georgie?’ whispered Mrs Weasley.
George’s fingers groped for the side of his head.
‘Saint-like,’ he murmured.
‘What’s wrong with him?’ croaked Fred, looking terrified. ‘Is his mind affected?’
‘Saint-like,’ repeated George, opening his eyes and looking up at his brother. ‘You see ... I’m holy. Holey, Fred, geddit?’

Now that’s dedication. 

Then there was the Weasley twin pranks. While it is true that Fred was the more prolific of the pair, there is an argument that a lot of the stunts he pulled went too far. The Ton-Tongue Toffee that Fred ‘accidentally’ dropped in the Dursleys’ living room? Yes, it might have been revenge on the [cousin](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/dudley-dursley) that treated [Harry](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/harry-potter) badly, but it was also incredibly damaging for [Muggle](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/muggles)/wizard relations. Fred turning [Ron’s](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/ron-weasley) teddy bear into a spider when he was three years old? Spiders were Ron’s biggest fear, and this would have been terrifying rather than funny. Fred feeding a Filibuster Firework to a Salamander? Unkind. 

When the twins worked together on a prank, that’s when they toed the line between hilarious and horrible – their Portable Swamp was a thing of legend. Being the slightly more level-headed twin, George seemed to have a better understanding of what constitutes a joke and could keep Fred on the right side of funny.

Ultimately, George was the twin with the better understanding of comedy. He may not have said as much as his brother but when he did, he made it count. His way with words. His more compassionate approach. And his ability to find humour in any situation made him the funniest [Weasley](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/the-weasleys).

## Fred was the funniest Weasley twin

Sometimes, the right answer is the most obvious answer, and that’s okay! Sorry, George – but Fred was, unequivocally, the funnier brother. A successful comedian must put themselves out there, work the room, find opportunities to find laughs everywhere and anywhere. While George was the perfect comedy partner, always naturally in tune with his brother’s rhythms, Fred was the one in charge starting the routines. It takes two to tango, but someone has to take the lead. 

As the Master of Ceremonies of the two twins (or you could argue he was MC for the entire Weasley family!) you’ll find numerous occasions across the Harry Potter stories where Fred gets the *first* laugh. In fact, the very earliest instance of Fred in the books is at King’s Cross Station, where he introduces himself to us all with this solid bit. 


‘Fred, you next,’ the plump woman said.
‘I’m not Fred, I’m George,’ said the boy. ‘Honestly, woman, call yourself our mother? Can’t you tell I’m George?’
‘Sorry, George, dear.’
‘Only joking, I am Fred,’ said the boy, and off he went.

Ever the showman, we immediately got a sense of Fred’s assertive tomfoolery, with no target (even his own [mum](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/molly-weasley)!) too small for his quickfire banter.

Across the stories, Fred’s influence was everywhere. Fred was the one who told Ron a cock-and-bull story about how you have to fight a [troll](/fact-file/creatures/troll) at the Hogwarts’ Sorting Ceremony. Fred was the one who asked [Angelina Johnson](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/angelina-johnson) out to the [Yule Ball](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/yule-ball), just to show the others that the endeavour wasn’t so scary. Fred was the one who immediately found a way to hoodwink Dumbledore’s [Age Line](/fact-file/plants-and-potions/ageing-potion) for the [Triwizard Tournament](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/triwizard-tournament) (although on that occasion, [Dumbledore](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/albus-dumbledore) out-mischiefed even him). 

And of course, Fred was the one who gave [Peeves](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/peeves) the legendary instructions: “give her hell from us”, after the twins broke out of Hogwarts under Professor [Umbridge’s](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/dolores-umbridge) tyrannical rule. 

Most double acts usually have one more eccentric partner while the other plays the stooge. For the Weasley twins, they were both capable of being “the funny man”, but Fred was more likely to get the ball rolling. He just made it all look so effortless, but it does take nerve to always be the ringleader. 

Perhaps this is why he was the one who we lost at the end of *Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows* – that slight moment of distraction when he was killed at the Battle of Hogwarts, seconds after his brother [Percy](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/percy-weasley) had made a rare joke: something that Fred absolutely couldn’t leave without making a remark, Maybe that fraction of overconfidence at the wrong time is what led to Fred’s doom. But you can bet that all of that buoyant energy went straight into George, who kept the [twins’ joke shop](/fact-file/locations/weasleys-wizard-wheezes) business going strong and even married Fred’s former Yule Ball date, Angelina. He even named his son after his late brother. Fred’s strength of character was too powerful to ever fade away. And although George was surely broken by his twin’s death, his magnetic influence will have been part of his life forever – and likely, something that George carried with him. Now he was the man in charge in Fred’s honour. 

So yes, Fred surely was the funnier sibling – but neither would’ve been quite as funny without the other.

Yes, anything was better than being with the Dursleys but that doesn’t take away from what an achievement that was. It would be overwhelming for anyone! But he entered the wizarding world with curiosity, courage and an open mind. We reckon this is why *Philosopher’s Stone* is your favourite film. You are just like Harry. You embrace new beginnings, are not afraid to expand your horizons and you don’t shy away from a challenge – even when you’re terrified.

## We think you’re like Hagrid if *Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets* is your top pick

This film had its fair share of brilliant – and most often dangerous – creatures. You know who else had an affinity for all creatures great and small? ## If *Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban* is your jam, then you’re just like Remus Lupin
When you think of the first Harry Potter film that truly introduced you to the darker side of the wizarding world, *Prisoner of Azkaban* should spring to mind. It embraced the themes of fear, betrayal and injustice. But it was also a film about redemption, truth and the importance of second chances. It straddled both sides of the world and this is perfectly reflected in [Remus Lupin](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/remus-lupin). As this is your favourite film, we think you are just like Harry’s best [Defence Against the Darks Arts](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/defence-against-the-dark-arts) teacher. Lupin had learned how to embrace the shadows but not let them drown out his light – even when those around him were determined to see the worst in him. This is a talent you share. ## Cedric Diggory is the character you are most like if *Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire* is your go to film
With *Goblet of Fire* focusing on a tournament that led to eternal glory, there were many moments where sportsmanship, honour and resilience took centre stage. As someone who embodies these values, this is your favourite of the Harry Potter films. It also makes you similar to [Cedric Diggory](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/cedric-diggory) – the humble [Hufflepuff](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/hufflepuff) who inspired others. Like him, we imagine you are a fantastic role model. Perhaps you are the boss that everyone wants to have – you demonstrate how to be a leader without letting ego get in the way. Maybe you are the musician that everyone admires – you show the importance of hard work and not just relying on talent alone. Or you are often the best-looking person in the room – but your kindness is what truly makes you magnetic. ## You are most like Luna Lovegood if *Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix* is your favourite film
The fifth Harry Potter film was full of excellent drama, heartbreaking moments and the introduction of the most unique character in the story, [Luna Lovegood](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/luna-lovegood). While many of her peers didn’t understand her (calling her horrid names like ‘Loony’) she was a breath of fresh air. Most importantly, whether she was introducing Harry to [Thestrals](/fact-file/creatures/thestral) or providing comforting words of wisdom to him instead of going to the leaving feast, she was an excellent friend. We think this is why you adore this film – you see yourself in her. You are the eccentric with a heart of gold. Like Luna, many see you as a peculiar – so it took you a little longer to find your people. Once you did? You found lifelong friends that accepted you for exactly who you are.

The seventh Harry Potter film will always be your favourite. You love all the clever schemes, problem-solving and the wonder that is [Hermione’s beaded bag](/fact-file/objects/hermiones-beaded-bag). How can one tiny bag literally contain everything you could possibly need to hunt [Horcruxes](/fact-file/objects/horcrux)? It’s magic! Anyway, we think this film speaks to you because you are just like the cleverest witch of her age. People rely on you because of your intelligent nature and attention to detail. You’re always the person with a plan – which you don’t really mind because deep down you know that if you left it to someone else, it wouldn’t be quite as good. You will always choose to rewatch the seventh film because this was [Hermione’s](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/hermione-granger) (and all organised people’s) moment to shine. Let’s face it, Harry and [Ron](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/ron-weasley) would never have come close to defeating [Voldemort](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/lord-voldemort) if it wasn’t for her.

## 8: All the dancing
Yes, there were magical mazes, dangerous dragons and aquatic adventures in the [Triwizard Tournament](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/triwizard-tournament), but they weren’t the only tasks that needed to be conquered that year. Enter the [Yule Ball](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/yule-ball) – keyword being *ball* aka having to reveal your dancing skills (or lack of) to a [Great Hall](/fact-file/locations/the-great-hall) full of people. We’re sure there were some nimble-footed students at each of the magical schools, but for most of the students (and their teenage awkwardness) it was probably a mortifying challenge. Poor [Harry](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/harry-potter), dancing was not his forte and he had to open the entire spectacle! While he thought he might die from embarrassment, the Yule Ball never really posed a threat to his life. Excruciating and a huge social test? Yes. Life threatening? Not really. This is why it is last place on our list.

## 7: Figuring out the infuriatingly difficult golden egg clue
You would think after battling a crochety dragon that saw you as an annoying but tasty snack, a Triwizard champion might get the chance to rest, recuperate and fully prepare for the next task. Alas, like most things in the magical world, it wasn’t quite that simple. Yes, the first task was over but there was the golden egg concealing a clue that needed to be dealt with – one with an ear-piercing screech. For Harry, that proved to be both unexpected and unwelcome. To solve it, not only did he have to sneak around the castle at night, but he had to take the advice of the [handsome champion](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/cedric-diggory) who happened to be his romance rival – not ideal. Nevertheless, we have put this second to last because while it was tricky, and solving it only seemed to raise more questions, Harry did get to experience one of the [best baths Hogwarts had](/fact-file/locations/prefects-bathroom) to offer. Who doesn’t love a little pampering?

## 6: Putting your name in the Goblet of Fire
With the pressure, expectation… and risk of catastrophic injury or death, the wizarding world thought it best that only the oldest school students should be allowed to take part in the Triwizard Tournament (sensible). This meant using some clever magic, cast by [Albus Dumbledore](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/albus-dumbledore) himself, to ensure no underage students could enter themselves into the competition. His Age Line appeared to work perfectly – as demonstrated by Fred and George’s glorious white beards. Then Harry’s name was called… the [Goblet of Fire](/fact-file/objects/the-goblet-of-fire) could be hoodwinked after all. It would take some seriously powerful magic to do such a thing. However, we think it deserves a place near the bottom of the list because if a wizard such as [Barty Crouch Jr.](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/barty-crouch-jr) could manipulate the competition, then there were plenty of others who could too. Yes, it was a challenge, but it was one that could be overcome.

## 5: The third task
Fifth place goes to the third task. You might be surprised to find this one quite so low on our list, but we do have our reasons. Firstly, this ranking only applies to the official task (what happened after was its own horrifying ordeal). There’s no doubt that the maze was the master of disorientation – overcoming a [Boggart](/fact-file/creatures/boggart), [Sphinx](/fact-file/creatures/sphinx) and competitors who weren’t themselves was no stroll in the park. The champions had to keep their wits sharp and their [wands](/fact-file/objects/wand) ready. Having said that, we think this was the least deadly of the three tasks. Experienced witches and wizards patrolled the maze perimeter, poised and ready to rescue any champion that found themselves in danger – they only needed to send up a shower of red sparks. The other Triwizard tasks felt like they had a little less of a safety net.

## 4: Successfully asking someone to the Yule Ball
We think a lot of teenagers would rather face one of [Hagrid’s](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/rubeus-hagrid) Blast-Ended Skrewts than ask their crush (to their *face*) if they would be their date to the Yule Ball. This unforeseen task felt positively Herculean. While [Fred](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/fred-weasley) asking [Angelina](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/angelina-johnson) to the ball was a masterclass in smooth, many struggled. [Ron’s](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/ron-weasley) attempt at asking [Fleur Delacour](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/fleur-delacour) to the dance was positively harrowing – we’re not sure he ever quite recovered. And Harry’s garbled and mostly unintelligible attempt at asking [Cho Chang](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/cho-chang) gave us some serious second-hand embarrassment. Finding a date was a marathon, not a sprint, and tapped into every teenage insecurity and fear. Even when Harry and Ron successfully found dates... they didn’t end well. A perfect storm of humiliation, this has firmly earned its place in the middle of our list.

## 3: The first task 
Any task involving dragons deserves to be near the top of our ranking. After all, there is a reason they have been given the most dangerous [Ministry classification](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/ministry-of-magic-classifications) (we reckon it might have something to do with their teeth, claws and ability to barbecue someone on the spot in a raging inferno). The champions had to survive, demonstrate brilliant magical skill and do it in front of an audience… no pressure then. However, one thing about this task, was it allowed each champion to play to their strengths – Harry [Summoning](/fact-file/spells/the-summoning-charm) his Firebolt was inspired. Being able to approach this task in myriad ways, plus having staff close enough to rescue you if things got too dicey, suggests it wasn’t quite the toughest task of the Tournament. Thrilling, dangerous but it could be tailored to each competitor.

## 2: The second task 
Out of the three expected Triwizard tasks, we think this was the one with the highest stakes. Why? Humans can’t breathe underwater. We don’t think we have to say much more than that. With teachers above the surface and champions below for a whole hour, if something went wrong… nobody would hear you scream. Ok, the [merpeople](/fact-file/creatures/merperson) would step in and alert those above, but they would have to be quick. Once your chosen method for breathing underwater failed, you’d only have a minute or so to make it back to the surface. Plus, nobody knows *exactly* what lives in the [Hogwarts lake](/fact-file/locations/the-great-lake). Anything could have been down there.

## 1: Getting through the year without ending up in a Rita Skeeter article 
With a legendary Tournament taking place for the first time in over 700 years, all eyes were on Hogwarts… including [Rita Skeeter’s](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/rita-skeeter). She was *everywhere* – using secrets and twisted truths to leave an epic trail of destruction with her Quick-Quotes Quill. She might have taken a particular interest in Harry but nobody around him was safe – whether that was revealing the closely guarded truth about Hagrid’s heritage (sending him into hiding) or sharing twisted half-truths about [Hermione’s](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/hermione-granger) love life (resulting in some rather *painful* hate mail). Yes, her illegal [Animagus](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/animagus) secret was eventually uncovered but not wasn’t until *after* the Triwizard Tournament had ended. Throughout the competition, Harry and his friends tried to avoid Rita’s poison pen. Yet, this was one task that proved to be impossible, sending it straight to the top of our list.

If you have ever asked yourself what witches and wizards eat, we’re happy to tell you they often enjoy the same food as their Muggle counterparts – Harry was fond of a treacle tart. Yet, there are a few differences… especially when it comes to sweet treats and drinks. We’ve broken it down for you…

## Food
__Freshwater Plimpies__
 
Let’s start with one of the savoury… *delicacies* of the wizarding world. Plimpies are rotund, spherical fish, Unlike [Muggle](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/muggles) fish, they have long legs with webbed feet. They might not sound particularly appetising – and we don’t know how many witches and wizards counted them as part of their regular diet. However, we do know that they were enjoyed by the rather eccentric Lovegoods. 

__Cauldron Cake__
 
This cake is readily available in the wizarding world. Although they were never really described in detail (we’re still curious to know what flavour they are), we imagine them to be cauldron shaped. They do seem to be popular – [Harry](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/harry-potter) often bought a bunch on [Hogwarts Express](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/hogwarts-express) journeys. 

__Pumpkin Pasty__
 
Pasties are a common food in the Muggle world particularly here in Britain. Originating in Cornwall, they are semi-circular, savoury pastries that are typically filled with meat and vegetables – yummy! Witches and wizards seem to have their own spin on the humble pasty. While we imagine that the pastry base is the same, the pumpkin filling seems unique to the magical world.

## Sweets
__Acid Pops__
 
These lollipops are about as delicious as they sound… not at all. Extremely acidic, they can even melt flesh. A seven-year-old [Ron Weasley](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/ron-weasley) discovered this when one burnt a hole right through his tongue. His brother, [Fred](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/fred-weasley), thought it was a hilarious joke. Their mother? Well, safe to say Fred felt the full wrath of [Mrs Weasley](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/molly-weasley). 

__Bertie Bott’s Every-Flavour Beans__
 
Watch out for these innocent looking sweets – you never know what flavour you will be lucky, or unlucky, enough to get next. These jellybeans might look like their Muggle counterparts – but we don’t think you will find many earwax or vomit flavoured beans outside of the magical world.

__Blood-flavoured lollipop__
 
You can find this *interesting* food item in [Honeydukes](/fact-file/locations/honeydukes), and they do exactly what they say on the tin – they are lollies that taste like blood. [Hermione](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/hermione-granger) theorised that they were probably for the famous sweet shop’s vampire clientele… and we’re inclined to agree. 

__Chocolate Cauldron__
 
The sound of cauldron-shaped chocolates with a Firewhisky filling make our mouths water. Ron’s did too – he scoffed down a box on his birthday Unfortunately, that particular batch had been laced with a [Love Potion](/fact-file/plants-and-potions/amortentia)…

__Chocolate Frog__
 
Possibly the most iconic of wizarding sweets – these chocolates are delightfully frog-shaped. In the films, they also have a spring, or hop, in their step. The best bit about a Chocolate Frog though? The card. Each frog contains a card about a famous witch or wizard. Ron had over five hundred of these in his collection – though we wonder if he ever managed to find Agrippa.

__Cockroach Clusters__
 
With a name containing the word cockroach, who on earth would find this wizarding sweet appealing? Somebody must do, as they are sold in Honeydukes. We don’t quite know what is in them – though we can make a guess that it involves creepy crawlies. We do know that they slightly resemble peanuts because of Ron’s temptation to trick Fred into eating them.

__Drooble’s Best Blowing Gum__
 
Part of the Special Effects section in Honeydukes, Droobles is bubble-gum with an edge. The bluebell-coloured bubbles that you blow with this are rather reluctant to be popped and will hang around for days.

__Edible Dark Mark__
 
An ominous skull with a protruding snake, the [Dark Mark](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/the-dark-mark) was [Lord Voldemort’s](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/lord-voldemort) sign… and it never meant anything good – whether it was branded onto his followers, the [Death Eaters](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/death-eaters), or cast into the sky after an attack had taken place. The edible version? Well, that wasn’t pleasant either. Sold at [Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes](/fact-file/locations/weasleys-wizard-wheezes), it was a trick sweet designed to make anyone sick… yuck!

__Exploding Bonbons__
 
These tasty treats are only ever mentioned in passing but we guess they are a bonbon sweet with a habit of going bang!

__Fainting Fancies__
 
Part of Fred and [George’s](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/george-weasley) iconic Skiving Snackboxes, we don’t know what these tasted like. We do know that they would knock you out like you’d been ‘hit over the head with an invisible mallet’ though.

__Fever Fudge__
 
Who doesn’t love yummy fudge? It’s a taste sensation! However, as another Skiving Snackbox creation of Fred and George’s, this one was more trick than treat. Those who ate this sweet could expect a horrible fever.

__Fizzing Whizzbees__
 
These sherbet balls are as yummy as they are fun. Whilst you are eating one, you’ll find yourself on cloud nine. Well, not quite… but you will be levitating a few inches off the ground!

__Fudge Flies__
 
Fudge? Yes please. Flies? No thanks. Hopefully these were just fudge in the shape of flies. However, they were a favourite of Ron’s rat, [Scabbers](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/scabbers)… so we can’t rule out that they might actually contain a few winged insects. 

__Hiccough Sweets__
 
They might sound like another Fred and George invention, but these sweets are actually a product from Zonko’s Joke Shop. When consumed, we imagine they cause some spectacular hiccoughing.

__Ice Mice__
 
This rather *cool* sweet causes your teeth to chatter and squeak! One of Honeydukes finest, you can spot it in the Special Effects section of their shop.

__Jelly Slugs__
 
Rather straightforward, these are slug-shaped jelly sweets! They seemed to be a favourite at Honeydukes – needing to be restocked after visiting [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) students nearly cleaned them out.

__Liquorice Wand__
 
Part of the selection from the [Hogwarts Express trolley](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/trolley-witch), these liquorice sweets are in the shape of wands. Liquorice can be rather divisive though. [Horace Slughorn](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/horace-slughorn) thought the trolley favoured them a bit too much – they played havoc with his digestive system! 

__Nosebleed Nougat__
 
If nougat is the same in both the Muggle and magical world, then it is a chewy and delicious sweet. However, this nougat was a Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes product that would leave you with a bleeding nose. While there were a few struggles during the testing phase – it ultimately proved to be the most popular Skiving Snackbox selection.

__Pepper Imps__
 
A sweet that makes you breathe fire? We’re sold! This Honeydukes sweet that makes you smoke at the mouth is found in the Special Effects section.
