British film magazine Empire have been getting into the spirit of the wizarding world, and have introduced the first-ever moving image cover to celebrate the launch of Fantastic Beasts.
Here it is...
Seeing as wizards read newspapers with moving pictures all the time, Empire’s cover features a special design that will make the magazine look like an actual enchanted newspaper. Modelled on American wizarding paper The New York Ghost – the cover will be magically embedded with two moving videos. You can fully interact with the cover, press play on the videos, and even charge it. Yep, really.
The technology behind the cover makes this a world-first in the magazine industry. Well, the Muggle and No-Maj magazine industries anyway.
One video will be an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette of Fantastic Beasts', while the other will show off the film’s latest trailer, which you’ll actually be able to watch before opening the magazine. What is this witchcraft?!
Jonathan Pile, deputy editor at Empire, assured us the only wizardry involved was technological.
'The cover is a double layer of card and inside is a video-screen,' Jonathan explained. 'Beneath the card are microchips and circuit boards, which lead to buttons that you press on and off, and they lead to two videos. The idea was obviously based on the Harry Potter universe. The video screen is like a moving picture on the front page of a newspaper.'
‘Our readers are going to be desperate to get their hands on a copy and see the new world of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them brought to life,' added editor-in-chief Terri White.
We're inclined to agree. After all, a real-life moving wizard newspaper means we can pretend to be real wizards for the day, right? Yep, we thought so.
Empire are producing 5000 of these limited-edition covers only, which will be exclusively available to Sainsbury’s on Thursday 27 October for £9.99. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is released in cinemas worldwide on 18 November 2016, from Warner Bros. Pictures.
