The third Fantastic Beasts film is set to be released on the 8th April in the UK and the cast, filmmakers and fans have all come together to celebrate on the red carpet. From asking the important questions to admiring the fabulous outfits, we have the roundup of all the action from this memorable premiere.
Plenty of the movie's stars were out in force and we were lucky enough to chat to some of them about their experience on this third film.
Jude Law, who plays Albus Dumbledore, gave us a fantastic insight into why Hogwarts is just so important to his character:
‘I think Hogwarts is his safety net. You learn in this film so much about the damage that happened to him as a young man. I think Hogwarts was a place where, both as a student and as a teacher, he felt like he could hide. I think he enjoys the purity and the enthusiasm of youth and teaching but really, he's also aware that there's a bigger, darker world out there that he has to engage in. He's very like Newt in that way. He's strangely a loner, and yet for a loner, he's always in company.’
Eddie Redmayne, Newt Scamander, showed some house pride:
‘I think being a Hufflepuff is pretty important because many of the sort of essential Hufflepuff characteristics are the ones that Newt lives by, and I really admire those. Kindness, empathy, teamwork – they're at the core of him really. I won't say he's the ultimate Hufflepuff, because I know there are some other great Hufflepuffs out there, but he's a Hufflepuff through and through.’
Eddie also let us know which of his fellow castmates made him laugh the most on set:
‘Jessica Williams who genuinely makes me belly laugh continuously and is just a dream. And Callum Turner who plays my brother. Weirdly he's younger than me but it's like having a kind of older brother who’s just gently jabbing away at you all the time, it's continuous. Dan as well!’
Alison Sudol, Queenie Goldstein, spoke to us about the journey her character had been on:
‘The first film was incredible. It was the first time we were all together. It is something that will always be dear to my heart. The second one was working through some really tough, painful, dark material. And this third one is the metamorphosis and Queenie coming out of the cocoon. There's something really special about that and I'm really proud of her journey and where she's come to.’
We also chatted to Jessica Williams, Lally Hicks, who had a rather interesting answer when we asked her what she would like to teach if she was a professor in the magical world:
‘As a professor, I would want to be really good at Transfiguration because technically it's the hardest thing you can do. Changing one thing into another is very impressive.’
And Dan Fogler revealed his excitement at finally being given a wand!
‘They finally let me have one. They didn't train me or anything. They were like here is a very powerful weapon… have fun! And that's what we did.’
The filmmakers gave us some excellent insights too...
Director David Yates has been behind the helm of seven Wizarding World films, and he told us about the wizarding locations that he had been excited to return to:
‘Do you know, going into the Great Hall again was very special and sort of nostalgic for me. Having been in there with Dan, Rupert and Emma and then going back with Eddie and Jude sort of filled me with a wonderful sense memory of making the previous films. The Hog's Head Inn was very special because that’s where we started Dumbledore's Army in film five. And then I'm sitting in there with Jude and Richard, who plays Aberforth, doing a scene about Ariana. The cross-experiences were really immense, and quite moving in a strange kind of way.’
Producer David Heyman, has been a part of the Wizarding World since the very beginning and he compared whether it was harder to on the Fantastic Beasts films in comparison to Harry Potter:
‘In some ways I think it's harder, in the sense that with Potter we had the books, and the books are such a rich source material. With this one Jo (J.K. Rowling) is inventing it from scratch. In that sense, I think the Potter films were easier in some ways. But we didn't have to manage childrens' hours in these films… We didn’t have that problem with Eddie Redmayne!’
And it certainly wouldn’t be a premiere without some glitz and glamour…
Creator of both Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films and screenwriter for the latter, J.K. Rowling was in attendance and happy to meet the fans.
The premiere hosts Yinka Bikinni and Tom Felton (aka Draco Malfoy) were on the red carpet.
Mads Mikkelsen who plays the Dark Wizard Gellert Grindelwald was there to celebrate the premiere.
We saw Katherine Waterston and Eddie Redmayne, Tina Goldstein and Newt Scamander, reunite on the red carpet.
Characters you might not expext to see together were happy to pose for a selfie!
William Nadylam who plays Yusuf Kama was there in a sharp suit.
Victoria Yeates who plays Newt's wonderful assistant Bunty was there. We're looking forward to seeing more of her character in this film!
In The Secrets of Dumbledore, we get to meet Albus' younger brother Aberforth, played by Richard Coyle.
Poppy Corby-Teuch plays Vinda Rosier and we all know the name 'Rosier' has ties to the darker side of the wizarding world...
When we asked the cast who the funniest person was on set most of them replied Jessica Williams! We're excited to see what she brings to the role of Ilvermorny professor, Lally Hicks.
Returning for the third film we have Callum Turner, aka Theseus Scamander, and we hope to see more of his and Newt's brotherly bond.
It wouldn't be Hogwarts without Professor McGonagall! Fiona Glascott is the actor bringing the younger version of this iconic character to life.
