## The Leaky Cauldron is the oldest pub in London

Despite what many [Muggles](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/muggles) think, the title of oldest pub in London goes to this well-loved wizarding establishment. Found on Charing Cross Road, the [Leaky Cauldron](/fact-file/locations/the-leaky-cauldron) was built in the 1500s – long before Charing Cross Road was even planned! Its true address is number one, [Diagon Alley](/fact-file/locations/diagon-alley).

## Muggles used to frequent the Leaky Cauldron

This wizarding institution wasn’t always a place that where only magical folk congregated. As it was built two centuries before the imposition of the International Statute of Secrecy, it was initially visible to Muggle eyes too. Muggles weren’t made to feel unwelcome or turned away. Having said that, thanks to the *interesting* conversations and even more *interesting* magical pets, many scarpered before finishing their mead.

## Neville Longbottom and Hannah Abbott lived above the Leaky Cauldron

In a turn of events that we find extremely adorable, after leaving [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) not only did [Neville](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/neville-longbottom) continue his passion for magical plants as [Herbology](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/herbology) professor, but he also married [Hufflepuff](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/hufflepuff), [Hannah Abbott](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/hannah-abbott-fact-file). The happy couple decided to make a home for themselves living above the one-and-only Leaky Cauldron.

## A pub was the headquarters of a rebellion

Although we never learnt which one it was, according to *Sites of Historical Sorcery*, one of the wizarding pubs in [Hogsmeade](/fact-file/locations/hogsmeade) was said to have been the headquarters of the 1612 [goblin](/fact-file/creatures/goblin) rebellion. Could it have been the [Hog’s Head Inn](/fact-file/locations/the-hogs-head) which was known for its dubious dealings and schemes? Or perhaps it was the cosiness of the [Three Broomsticks](/fact-file/locations/the-three-broomsticks) that convinced the goblins to make it their base?

## The Hog’s Head Inn was run by a Dumbledore

While [Albus Dumbledore](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/albus-dumbledore) ran Hogwarts, just down the road his brother, [Aberforth Dumbledore](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/aberforth-dumbledore-fact-file), ran the Hog’s Head Inn. Crochety and a big fan of goats, he and his brother didn’t always see eye-to-eye. Ultimately, they were both extremely good people and Aberforth even helped the resistance at Hogwarts after Albus’ death – thanks to a secret passage that connected the [Room of Requirement](/fact-file/locations/the-room-of-requirement) to his pub.

## Sybill Trelawney made her infamous prediction at the Hog’s Head Inn

The Hog’s Head Inn was the location of many crucial story moments from the founding of [Dumbledore’s Army](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/dumbledores-army) to [Hagrid](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/rubeus-hagrid) winning a dragon egg in a game of cards. However, there was one particular moment that changed the course of wizarding history forever. On a gloomy night, Albus Dumbledore went to interview [Sybill Trelawney](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/sybill-trelawney) for the role of [Divination](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/divination) teacher. He was thoroughly unimpressed until, among the ramshackle décor and sticky floor, she made her prediction about the boy destined to end [Voldemort](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/lord-voldemort) and rid the world of his evil!

Run by Madam Rosmerta, the Three Broomsticks was a warm and welcoming establishment in Hogsmeade. Yet Dark Magic still managed to worm its way in there in the form of the cursed opal necklace. Part of a clumsy attempt on Dumbledore’s life, [Gryffindor](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/gryffindor) Quidditch team member, [Katie Bell](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/katie-bell), took the necklace from the pub while under the influence of the [Imperius Curse](/fact-file/spells/the-imperius-curse) and narrowly escaped its deadly power.

## It wasn’t just witches and wizards who frequented the Three Broomsticks

Said to be as old as the only all-wizard village in Britain, the Three Broomsticks was a bit of a haven for all sorts of magical beings, such as hags, who couldn’t disguise themselves particularly well in the Muggle world. In fact, Ron and Hermione once thought they spotted an ogre!

## Harry Potter – Get some round glasses and a pen

First off, let’s start with the classic: grab your mate’s spare glasses (we hope their prescription isn’t too strong) and a pen.
Boom, you’re The Boy Who Lived in under 30 seconds.

## Snape – Don’t wash your hair, grab a bed-sheet 

He's a surly dude and the perfect Hallowe’en mood. Yes, you’re going to your spooky soiree as Potions Professor and all-round-grump, Severus Snape. Now, Snape isn’t what you would call a dedicated follower of fashion – often known to be floating around Hogwarts in a big black robe and generally just emitting a dark, bat-like vibe. 

Good news for you, then. All you’ll need to conquer Snape’s greasy aesthetic is some sort of large piece of fabric (got any dark bed sheets?) to wrap around you and a distinct lack of effort when it comes to your personal hygiene for the next couple of days. We respect your commitment to the bit. 

## Hagrid – Grab a friend and get them to sit on your shoulders all night 

Ah yes: old faithful. When in doubt for a costume, there’s always the never-not-funny routine of putting your friend on your shoulders and putting a giant coat over the top of you both. It’s hilarious! Look how tall you are! What a laugh riot.

And our loveable half-giant Hagrid is the perfect subject for such tomfoolery. Preferably, if you can find a bearded friend – even better. And if they can do a west-country accent – you are truly in business.

## Dobby – We hope you like putting giant pieces of lettuce on your ears 

Our wholesome house-elf Dobby is an absolute sweetheart, and this makeshift Hallowe’en costume attempt is an absolute insult to him. With apologies, little guy. Famed for his floppy ears and (in his Malfoy days) a sad, dirty pillowcase, you can’t deny that’s a pretty easy costume to put together.

Now, this is just an idea, but if you just happened to have any big lettuces in the fridge (think Romaine or Iceberg, something extra leafy) you could quite simply clip these to your ears and pop a pillowcase over the top of you. Look, it’s just an idea. You’re the one reading this article, so we know the situation is pretty desperate.

## Any Hogwarts portrait – Just grab some cardboard.... 

The Hogwarts halls are adorned with many a fascinating portrait, full of great witches and wizards of times gone by. Now, it’s your chance to join that legacy, by grabbing four long pieces of cardboard, sticking them together in a square shape, and holding it over your body awkwardly. Voila: you have framed yourself!

One small snag: you do kinda have to hold this frame over yourself for a long period of time to maintain the portrait illusion. And if you’re trick or treating, you might need a chaperone to hold the sweets because – pal – your arms are going to get pretty tired.

But we must all suffer for our art.

Professor Trelawney: Grab some incense and a cup of tea and look mysterious for a good long while. 
Newt Scamander: You’ve probably got a briefcase from a failed job interview knocking around somewhere, right? And you could even raid your garden to find a twig to represent Pickett the Bowtruckle! 
Argus Filch: Hold a broom in a grumpy manner and maintain a perpetually exasperated attitude. 
Neville Longbottom: All you need is a red apple to be your Remembrall and your own natural, adorable energy.

They also cause the temperature to drop, especially if there are a number of them congregated in one area. Oh, and we wouldn’t recommend walking through a ghost – unless you like the sensation of being plunged into ice-cold water.

### 5.	The only thing that can stop an Inferius is fire
As Inferi are corpses that have been reanimated thanks to a Dark wizard’s curse, they are preserved indefinitely by that awful magic. Yet, no spell has been discovered that stops dead flesh from burning. So, Inferi are enchanted by their master to avoid flames at all cost.

## 6.	Avoid dining as part of a table of 13
Well, according to [Sybill Trelawney](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/sybill-trelawney) that is. Apparently, if 13 people dine together, the first one to get up from the table will be the first one to die – best off sticking to even numbers then.

### 7.	There’s a living shadow that eats humans in their sleep

### 9.	Vampires do exist in the wizarding world
We even met one at the [Slug Club](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/the-slug-club) Christmas party. Remember Sanguini? The vampire with a rather hungry look in his eye? Speaking of vampires… yes, Snape might have had a bat-like appearance and a fondness for a gothic palette, but he was not a vampire – despite the rumours.

Like poltergeists, [Boggarts](/fact-file/creatures/boggart) are weird non-beings that just appear in the wizarding world. They seem to be generated and sustained by human emotions and those who are more fearful are more susceptible to them… so positive vibes only!

### 12.	Drink unicorn blood at your peril 
Firstly, it would take someone supremely evil (like a certain Dark wizard with a snake-like nose) to kill a creature as majestic as a [unicorn](/fact-file/creatures/unicorn). But if they do, they better not drink their blood. Granted, it will keep them alive even if they are a whisker from death, but that life will be cursed half-life – no thank you! 

### 13.	If you’re feeling as tired and full of despair, look around for a Pogrebin
This small Russian demon is a rather nasty little creature. It will follow a person and fill them with terrible feelings until they reach their limit, fall to their knees and are then pounced upon and eaten. Although a well-placed Hex, or a hefty kick, is enough to scare them off.

In Harry Potter’s world, there’s Divination, Astronomy and prophecies – all used to make sense of the mysteries of the universe and the great beyond. But what about astrology? We know Professor Trelawney did touch upon it, but do any of our favourite characters happen to display personality traits that are unique to their star sign?

Well, we thought it would be fun to find out! As it is Libra season, we’re looking at the Head of Ravenclaw, Filius Flitwick. Of course, any similarities may be a total coincidence. We’ll leave that up to you to decide. Why not share this with your Libra friends and see what they think?

## Intellectual
If there’s one thing you can count on, it’s the Head of [Ravenclaw](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/ravenclaw), the house *known* for its intelligence, being somewhat smart. But did you know that intellectualism happens to be something often associated with the Libra star sign too?

Libras are one of the three Air signs which means they are all about the mind. They are the thinkers and the intellectuals of the zodiac with a deep love of learning. Unlike other star signs, they lead with their brain rather than their heart.

This sounds a lot like [Flitwick](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/filius-flitwick) to us. Whilst we’re in no way saying he didn’t have a heart (his reaction to Ginny being taken to the [Chamber of Secrets](/fact-file/locations/the-chamber-of-secrets) certainly showed that), his intellectual prowess was something to be truly admired. This was the professor who managed to, in the words of George Weasley, ‘get everyone through their exams all right’. The professor who came up with the tricky flying key task through the trapdoor. Plus, he was a wizard who even Gilderoy Lockhart (arguably the *most* self-centred man in the wizarding world) admired for his spellwork – claiming Flitwick knew more about Entrancing Enchantments than *anyone* else. He was one clever cookie.

## Creative
It is true that Libras are known for their intellect, thanks to being an Air sign. However, that intelligence is often expressed in a creative way, rather than a logical or practical way (like you might find with an Earth sign). Libras are creative thinkers, often have an artistic flair and are drawn to music, art and decoration.

Now, Flitwick might not *immediately* spring to mind when you think of artistic expression, but we have two words for you – Christmas decorations. Every year when [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) was transformed into a winter wonderland, Flitwick was one of the professors who was responsible for it. It certainly takes some out-of-the-box thinking to come up with the idea of conjuring golden bubbles to use as baubles on the Christmas tree – we know Ron couldn’t tear his eyes away from them!

## Team player
Teamwork is something that comes as naturally as breathing to a Libra. They are gifted with being able to see and understand different points of view and thrive best when cooperation is involved. 

Professor Flitwick demonstrated this repeatedly throughout the Harry Potter stories. He was always willing to work alongside the other professors, thrived as part of a team and went above and beyond to protect the school and its students. Voldemort was attacking the school? Well, Flitwick helped the group effort to defend it by casting complex protective Charms. A supposed murderer had escaped from [Azkaban](/fact-file/locations/azkaban) and was coming after one of his students? Flitwick did his bit by teaching the Hogwarts front doors to recognise a picture of Sirius Black. Marshals were needed for the third [Triwizard Tournament](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/triwizard-tournament) task? Flitwick didn’t hesitate to help patrol the maze with his fellow professors. Whatever the task, he always rolled up his sleeves, did his part and made an excellent team member.

## Cool as a cucumber
Astrologers often talk about how those with Libra star signs are extremely cool under pressure. In fact, their default setting is this calm, unruffled presence – you certainly couldn’t describe them as hot heads. And you couldn’t describe Flitwick as one either,

Flitwick rarely ever seemed to be ruffled and was one of the teachers that always seemed to be in a good mood. Whether he felt like that underneath is another question, but on the surface, he was cool, calm and collected – even when confronted by the odious [Umbridge](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/dolores-umbridge). Just look at the way he ignored her attempts at intimidation during those lesson observations of hers. He could not have cared less, treating her like any other guest his classroom – iconic behaviour really.

## Fair-minded 
According to astrologers, those born under the Libra zodiac sign have a strong desire to be as fair as possible. Represented by the scale, they are always striving for balance and create an atmosphere of harmony and ease around them.

We think the diplomatic [Charms](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/charms) professor fits this description. Despite being the Head of Ravenclaw house, he was supportive and encouraging of *all* his students. Not something that could be said for others in leadership positions… we’re talking about *you*, Snape. Flitwick’s non-discriminatory attitude was not only reflected in the way he treated students from other houses, such as slipping Harry a box of sugar mice after his interview with the [Quibbler](/fact-file/objects/the-quibbler) or forgiving Neville for sending him flying across the classroom while practicing Banishing Charms, but also reflected in the way his students treated him. Even Malfoy, who was snippy with just about any human in existence, showed Flitwick respect, replying to him without a hint of sarcasm when Flitwick interrupted their conversation about Harry’s new Nimbus 2000.

Debate Club: Charms or Transfiguration? Which is the more useful subject?

## Charms is the more useful subject
Don’t listen to what Augusta Longbottom has to say, [Charms](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/charms) is in no way the soft option. We think it happens to be the most valuable subject taught at Hogwarts – much more useful than Transfiguration anyway.

Firstly, Charms are spells that you use throughout your everyday life. Need a bit of extra light? Use [Lumos](/fact-file/spells/the-wand-lighting-charm). Did something mortifying and want to make sure nobody remembers? Oh look, there’s the [Memory Charm](/fact-file/spells/the-memory-charm). You’re being swarmed by a bunch of Dementors and want to hang on to your soul? Good job the [Patronus Charm](/fact-file/spells/the-patronus-charm) exists. Whatever situation you find yourself in, there’s always a Charm to help you.

Transfiguration doesn’t do that. Yeah, it might look cool to turn a desk into a pig or small objects into birds, but we’d hardly call that *useful*. Plus, magic that requires Transfiguration isn’t as easy to get to grips with as Charms. Look at the process of becoming an Animagus, it’s hideously long and overly complex and can result in utter disaster. We would *not* want to be stuck as some half-human, half-animal hybrid for the rest of our days – no thank you. For something to be truly useful it has to be accessible, and Transfiguration just isn’t it.

But let’s also look beyond the everyday. You know what spell ultimately defeated Voldemort? A Charm. That’s right, it wasn’t some fancy Transfiguration, a Hex or a Potion, it was a humble Charm. In the very final battle, Harry Potter used [Expelliarmus](/fact-file/spells/the-disarming-charm), to defeat Voldemort. 

In fact, the Disarming Charm was Harry’s signature spell. It got him out of plenty of scrapes – from escaping the clutches of a giant spider in the third task, to disarming Snape at the [Shrieking Shack](/fact-file/locations/the-shrieking-shack). He even made sure all members of Dumbledore’s Army could use it – that’s how important it was. Just about more important than turning a mouse into a snuffbox that’s for sure.

To us, it’s a no-brainer. Charms is a much more useful subject than Transfiguration. Whilst the latter might lend itself to some fun party tricks, it’s just doesn’t help you on a day-to-day basis, Charms does. It’s also the subject that most students can get to grips with (even Neville Longbottom took it N.E.W.T. level). But the deciding factor? If Charms is good enough for defeating one of the Darkest wizards of all time, then its good enough for us.

## Transfiguration is the more useful subject 

Party tricks?! Put some respect on to the good name [Minerva McGonagall](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/minerva-mcgonagall). There is no way the no-nonsense Deputy Head of Hogwarts would waste her time on a subject considered kitsch – [Transfiguration](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/transfiguration) is the real deal. And far more nuanced than turning rats into water goblets.  

This branch of magic wasn’t just about transformation – it was also about conjuring, vanishing and combining. This class may not have as many famous spells as Charms does, like The Patronus Charm or Lumos and Nox, but there are so many famous uses of Transfiguration across the Harry Potter stories that you probably haven’t even realised.

To become an [Animagus](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/animagus), [one of the most complex and significant spells in the wizarding world](https://www.wizardingworld.com/features/web-how-do-you-become-animagus), for example, you must master it through the art of Transfiguration. (Hence McGonagall’s adept skill of being able to turn into a cat whenever she likes.) The power of Animagi was a vital practice for several witches and wizards– even Harry’s own father swore by it, in order to comfort his friend Remus Lupin during his werewolf transformations.

Fellow Animagus and [Marauder](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/marauders) Sirius Black was able to hide behind his Snuffles persona while on the run from Azkaban. And going back to Professor McGonagall – without her prowess (purr-ess?) at metamorphosing into her feline form, she wouldn’t have been able to efficiently watch over Harry and the Dursleys at the start of the stories. 

You can also conjure things from thin air using Transfiguration – where do you think Ron and Harry got their endless sandwiches from when they were late for the start-of-term feast in *Chamber of Secrets*? And as many of you reading this well know, sandwiches are probably the most important thing of all time. 

Alright, fine. If you need further persuasion – think of Hermione conjuring up flames to keep the trio warm during their [Horcrux](/fact-file/objects/horcrux) hunt. Think of the silver rope McGonagall created to detain the Carrows. And what about Vanishing Spells? The idea of forcing something into non-being is an incredible phenomenon. And it’s actually an early magical activity we see Harry accidentally use – vanishing the glass at London Zoo to free the Boa Constrictor. Just think, without Transfiguration, you would never have had “Thankssss amigo”! 

Yes, Charms might have its valuable uses but let’s make one thing clear. While it was a Charm that Harry used in the final battle against Voldemort, it was Voldemort’s rebounding Curse that killed him rather than the Charm itself. 

Transfiguration is the bones of magical proficiency. Conjuring from thin air – or indeed vanishing it – or being able to literally change something (or someone) into something entirely different? Bread and butter magic. This is the best class to nail at Hogwarts, hands down. And if it’s good enough for McGonagall, it’s good enough for us.

Yep, your [Boggart](/fact-file/creatures/boggart) would be mountains of dust. Dust piled up in corner of the room. Dust only visible as it catches the sunlight. Dust covering every surface. That annoying stodgy dust that doesn't come off without a good scrub, that dust that laughs in the face of your feather duster. The horror, the horror!

## If you are a perfectionist your Boggart would be a jigsaw with a missing piece
From dotting every ‘i’ and crossing ever ‘t’ to making sure that every single tiny detail in your life has been meticulously planned, you’re not ashamed to say that you’re a perfectionist. You’re the type of person who would balk at the go-with-the-flow attitude of [Ron Weasley](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/ron-weasley) and you think [Hermione Granger's](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/hermione-granger) approach to well, anything is inspired. But we know what keeps you awake at night. A problem you can’t solve, and a puzzle doomed to remain unfinished. That’s right, your Boggart would be a jigsaw with a missing piece. That one missing square of sky from your jigsaw of Hogwarts castle plagues your nightmares and with this Boggart, it’ll plague your waking hours too.

## If you’re hip, happening and stylish your Boggart would be skinny jeans 
Do you have your finger on the pulse? Do you keep up with the latest trends? Are you young, hip and happening? Then we know what your deepest, darkest fear would be. Are you ready? Skinny jeans. Yes. The fashion staple worn throughout the noughties. Just the thought of these jeans brings you out in hives. They’re so uncool! Only old people wear them! Don’t you know it’s all about cargo pants now? Luckily, the folks of the wizarding world don’t seem to have this issue so much, what with [robes](/fact-file/locations/madam-malkins-robes-for-all-occasions) being the standard, but for someone like you? ## If you’re an extrovert your Boggart would be FOMO
There’s nothing in the world that you find more fun than being with people – whether that’s at a wild party or a sophisticated soiree. Like [Fred](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/fred-weasley) and [George Weasley](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/george-weasley), you thrive in social environments, cracking jokes and holding a captive audience with your witty anecdotes. That feeling of not being included would be unbearable and for an extrovert like you? That FOMO (fear of missing out) would be your Boggart and quite possibly your downfall.

## If you’re an introvert your Boggart would be answering a phone call
In this day and age phone calls should be obsolete. There’s social media, there’s texting and if you’re feeling really brave, there’s the occasional voice note. Who needs to pick up the phone? If that sounds like you, we reckon you’re a bit of an introvert and we know just what your Boggart would be… answering a phone call. Yes, that’s right, a giant phone would tumble out of [Lupin’s](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/remus-lupin) wardrobe in that iconic [Defence Against the Dark Arts](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/defence-against-the-dark-arts) lesson, filled with the disembodied voices of all those you put off calling. Your palms would get sweaty, you’d forget how to speak, and we just hope you can summon the word [‘Riddikulus’](/fact-file/spells/the-boggart-banishing-charm) to your lips before you succumb to the horror of it all.

## If you’re a bookworm your Boggart would be spoilers
Do you see yourself as a bit of a Hermione Granger? Have you been known to check out books the size of bricks from the library for a bit of ‘light reading’? Do you frequently like to lose yourself and your reality to a fictional world? Then little bookworm, your Boggart would be spoilers. Every single time a Boggart emerged from its creepy corner or hidey hole, the book you were currently reading would be ruined. Imagine if that had happened while you were reading the Harry Potter books? We’d be devastated to learn if Harry vanquished Voldemort, if [Dobby](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/dobby) was ever freed or if Ron *finally* got his act together enough to win Hermione’s heart. As Boggarts go, it’s pretty dastardly.

## McGonagall was once engaged to a Muggle
Their engagement may have only lasted a day but it’s true! [Minerva McGonagall](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/minerva-mcgonagall) was once engaged to the dashing son-of-a-local-farmer, Dougal McGregor.  A [Muggle](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/muggles) (who was quite unaware of Minerva’s magical ability) became the person she laughed with, argued with and fell head-over-heels in love with. Caught up in a whirlwind romance, Dougal proposed to Minerva, and she accepted. 

Yet, she couldn’t bring herself to tell her parents. She had seen how the trust between her parents had broken in the aftermath of her witch mother revealing her magical identity to her Muggle father. She knew she would have to live a life of secrecy. And she realised it meant the end of any of her ambitions or dreams. Faced with an unbearable choice, Minerva chose herself and a life in which she was free to be exactly who she wanted. She broke Dougal’s heart when she told him, as the Statute of Secrecy prevented her from telling him the real reason she could not marry him, and her heart shattered too.

## Quidditch was a talent of hers
Professor McGonagall might be known for her tremendous Transfiguration skills (she did win the *Transfiguration Toda*y Most Promising Newcomer award whilst at school), but she had another passion in life, for one particular sport… [Quidditch](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/quidditch). Minerva McGonagall was a gifted player (like her mother before her) and member of the Gryffindor Quidditch team. However, all that talent did not stop her from having a particularly nasty fall during a match in her final year. Thanks to a Slytherin foul, she was left with a concussion, broken ribs and a life-long desire to see the Slytherin Quidditch team crushed in every single one of their matches.

## She worked at the Ministry of Magic
She might have seemed like part of the Hogwarts furniture, but McGonagall had a totally different job before her illustrious career as a Hogwarts professor and eventual headmistress. After she left school, Minerva worked at The Department of Magical Law Enforcement in the [Ministry of Magic](/fact-file/locations/the-ministry-of-magic). Naturally, a witch as skilled as Minerva was a talented and efficient employee – but she was unhappy. The lingering heartbreak from her failed engagement to Dougal McGregor, the common anti-Muggle sentiment (which she found particularly difficult as she adored her Muggle father), and homesickness for Scotland meant she stayed for only two years. Ever determined, Minerva wrote a letter to [Albus Dumbledore](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/albus-dumbledore) asking if she could return to Hogwarts as a professor… and we all know how that ended up.

## Professor Sprout was an old schoolfriend 
This is such a cute fact about Minerva – we love learning more about who the professors consider to be their besties. [Pomona Sprout](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/pomona-sprout) and Minerva McGonagall might have been in different years and different houses, but despite their school careers only overlapping by two years, the two witches enjoyed a brilliant friendship both then and when they both ended up back at [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) as teachers.
