## The Leaky Cauldron is the oldest pub in London

Despite what many [Muggles](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/muggles) think, the title of oldest pub in London goes to this well-loved wizarding establishment. Found on Charing Cross Road, the [Leaky Cauldron](/fact-file/locations/the-leaky-cauldron) was built in the 1500s – long before Charing Cross Road was even planned! Its true address is number one, [Diagon Alley](/fact-file/locations/diagon-alley).

## Muggles used to frequent the Leaky Cauldron

This wizarding institution wasn’t always a place that where only magical folk congregated. As it was built two centuries before the imposition of the International Statute of Secrecy, it was initially visible to Muggle eyes too. Muggles weren’t made to feel unwelcome or turned away. Having said that, thanks to the *interesting* conversations and even more *interesting* magical pets, many scarpered before finishing their mead.

## Neville Longbottom and Hannah Abbott lived above the Leaky Cauldron

In a turn of events that we find extremely adorable, after leaving [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) not only did [Neville](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/neville-longbottom) continue his passion for magical plants as [Herbology](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/herbology) professor, but he also married [Hufflepuff](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/hufflepuff), [Hannah Abbott](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/hannah-abbott-fact-file). The happy couple decided to make a home for themselves living above the one-and-only Leaky Cauldron.

## A pub was the headquarters of a rebellion

Although we never learnt which one it was, according to *Sites of Historical Sorcery*, one of the wizarding pubs in [Hogsmeade](/fact-file/locations/hogsmeade) was said to have been the headquarters of the 1612 [goblin](/fact-file/creatures/goblin) rebellion. Could it have been the [Hog’s Head Inn](/fact-file/locations/the-hogs-head) which was known for its dubious dealings and schemes? Or perhaps it was the cosiness of the [Three Broomsticks](/fact-file/locations/the-three-broomsticks) that convinced the goblins to make it their base?

## The Hog’s Head Inn was run by a Dumbledore

While [Albus Dumbledore](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/albus-dumbledore) ran Hogwarts, just down the road his brother, [Aberforth Dumbledore](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/aberforth-dumbledore-fact-file), ran the Hog’s Head Inn. Crochety and a big fan of goats, he and his brother didn’t always see eye-to-eye. Ultimately, they were both extremely good people and Aberforth even helped the resistance at Hogwarts after Albus’ death – thanks to a secret passage that connected the [Room of Requirement](/fact-file/locations/the-room-of-requirement) to his pub.

## Sybill Trelawney made her infamous prediction at the Hog’s Head Inn

The Hog’s Head Inn was the location of many crucial story moments from the founding of [Dumbledore’s Army](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/dumbledores-army) to [Hagrid](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/rubeus-hagrid) winning a dragon egg in a game of cards. However, there was one particular moment that changed the course of wizarding history forever. On a gloomy night, Albus Dumbledore went to interview [Sybill Trelawney](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/sybill-trelawney) for the role of [Divination](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/divination) teacher. He was thoroughly unimpressed until, among the ramshackle décor and sticky floor, she made her prediction about the boy destined to end [Voldemort](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/lord-voldemort) and rid the world of his evil!

## Katie Bell was given the cursed opal necklace at The Three Broomsticks

Run by Madam Rosmerta, the Three Broomsticks was a warm and welcoming establishment in Hogsmeade. Yet Dark Magic still managed to worm its way in there in the form of the cursed opal necklace. Part of a clumsy attempt on Dumbledore’s life, [Gryffindor](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/gryffindor) Quidditch team member, [Katie Bell](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/katie-bell), took the necklace from the pub while under the influence of the [Imperius Curse](/fact-file/spells/the-imperius-curse) and narrowly escaped its deadly power.

## It wasn’t just witches and wizards who frequented the Three Broomsticks

Said to be as old as the only all-wizard village in Britain, the Three Broomsticks was a bit of a haven for all sorts of magical beings, such as hags, who couldn’t disguise themselves particularly well in the Muggle world. In fact, Ron and Hermione once thought they spotted an ogre!

__Professor Albus Dumbledore__

[Dumbledore](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/albus-dumbledore) was the Headmaster of Hogwarts and a beloved role model in the wizarding world.

With twinkly blue eyes, half-moon spectacles and a level of intelligence that is difficult to comprehend, Dumbledore was admired by his peers and students alike. Despite all of this legacy, however, Dumbledore was a gentle soul, guiding Harry through his years at Hogwarts and always on hand to offer sage wisdom.

He was also joyfully eccentric for such a powerful figure. Just see his speech at Harry’s first Hogwarts feast: ‘Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!’ 

__Professor Minerva McGonagall__

The tight-bunned Head of Gryffindor and talented [Transfiguration](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/transfiguration) teacher was Dumbledore’s right-hand woman, with a strict but fair teaching style, a deep love of Quidditch and a biscuit on-hand whenever the need should arise.

__Professor Pomona Sprout__

You could describe the Head of Hufflepuff and Herbology professor as *down-to-earth*. Or you could say her no-nonsense attitude meant she kept herself firmly *grounded*.

__Professor Filius Flitwick__

Professor of [Charms](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/charms) and Head of Ravenclaw, Filius Flitwick exemplified the Ravenclaw traits of wit and wisdom.

He was one of the more friendly and encouraging Hogwarts teachers and liked to get involved with wider school activities – like helping to decorate Hogwarts for Christmas!

__Professor Severus Snape__

One of the most *severe* teachers at Hogwarts, Severus Snape (and indeed he was [named this for a reason](https://www.wizardingworld.com/features/etymology-of-defence-against-the-dark-arts-professor-names)) was firstly the Potions professor, then Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher and briefly Headmaster.

Whilst he was... civil to those in his own house, his tolerance rarely extended beyond that. Nonetheless, Snape was an exceptionally talented wizard, knowing how to brew extremely tricky potions, such as the truth potion, Veritaserum, and had the impressive skill of [Occlumency](https://www.wizardingworld.com/features/a-guide-to-occlumency), which you can learn more about here.

__Professor Horace Slughorn__

The former Head of Slytherin and Potions professor in Harry’s sixth year was a rather jovial fellow. But he was also shrewd and liked to ‘collect’ students that he believed had the potential to become influential or interesting. As such, he founded the ‘[Slug Club](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/the-slug-club)’, a society within Hogwarts with very exclusive invitations, revealing a more vainglorious side to his otherwise affable demeanour. Nonetheless, Slughorn introduced us to many useful things, such as the rare, good luck potion, Felix Felicis.  

__Professor Quirinus Quirrell__

Harry’s first Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher with a Dark secret. Quirrell was a timid, yet gifted, Ravenclaw who found himself tempted to join forces with a rather unscrupulous character. His most iconic line is probably ‘Troll – in the dungeons – thought you ought to know.’

Gilderoy Lockhart loved one thing above all else… Gilderoy Lockhart.

Blond haired, immaculately dressed, with an army of adoring fans and a long bibliography, Lockhart took the post as Harry’s Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher in his second year after huge success as an author. However, it soon transpired that he was a little under-qualified for this job, and indeed might’ve used a bit too much creative license in his many books about his ‘adventures’. 

__Professor Remus Lupin__

Harry’s best Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher by a very, *very* long way. Remus Lupin was kind, intelligent and had a soft spot for the underdog (being one himself).

A jack of all trades when it came to this lesson, Lupin had a particularly adept knowledge of Dark magical creatures. He even taught Harry the famously difficult [Patronus Charm](/fact-file/spells/the-patronus-charm) in his spare time, a defensive spell that can ward off the fearsome creatures, Dementors.

__Professor Alastor (Mad-Eye) Moody__

A rather unique professor. Alastor Moody was an [Auror](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/auror) at the Ministry of Magic before being asked to join the Hogwarts staff as the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher in Harry’s fourth year. However, it eventually became clear that ‘Moody’ was not who he initially seemed to be...

__Professor Dolores Umbridge__

Eurgh, Dolores Umbridge, the [Defence Against the Dark Arts](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/defence-against-the-dark-arts) teacher in Harry’s fifth year. She came from the Ministry of Magic with her bigoted views, denial of a certain Dark wizard’s return and a penchant for cruel and unusual punishments.

She also loved pink and cats, but it did little to soften her heinous personality. 

__Professor Rubeus Hagrid__

Hagrid was so much more than a Hogwarts staff member. Not only was he Harry’s first friend in the wizarding world but he also became his Care of Magical Creatures teacher from his third year onwards.

Though his teaching style was rather unorthodox and sometimes just plain risky, his heart was always in the right place – and had a deeper understanding of magical creatures (even the less-cute ones) than most. During his post, Hagrid introduced his class to [Hippogriffs](/fact-file/creatures/hippogriff), Blast-Ended Skrewts and the particularly adorable, gold-hunting Nifflers. 

__Professor Wilhelmina Grubbly-Plank__

The straightforward Care of Magical Creatures teacher that stepped in when Hagrid was unavailable. Her teaching style was more traditional and included a lesson on unicorns. But could you say she was as fun as our favourite half-giant?

__Professor Silvanus Kettleburn__
<br>
We didn’t meet Professor Kettleburn in the books or films, but apparently, he was just as fearless as our Hagrid, stationed as the Care of Magical Creatures teacher before him. Eventually, he gracefully left his post to ‘spend time with his remaining limbs’ after many run-ins with the dangerous beasts he specialised in, such as Grindylows and Fire Crabs.

__Professor Sybill Trelawney__
<br>
[Sybill Trelawney](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/sybill-trelawney) was the otherworldly Divination teacher with a questionable talent as a Seer, often overshadowed by her famous relative Cassandra, who was known to be a great talent in the field. Sybill’s classroom was filled with squashy pouffes, teacups and an overwhelming scent of incense.

Not every student was convinced by her teaching ability (aka Hermione Granger), which wasn’t helped by her insistence that Harry was doomed to die a dreadful death.

__Firenze__ 
<br>
This was a very unusual member of the Hogwarts staff. First things first, he was a [centaur](/fact-file/creatures/centaur). These mysterious creatures avoided interacting with humans on the whole. However, Firenze was always warmer towards his two-legged friends and that contributed to him being kicked out of his herd. Luckily, Albus Dumbledore offered him a job as a new Divination teacher and even gave him a classroom reminiscent of his forest home. 

__Professor Cuthbert Binns__

One of the oldest members of the Hogwarts staff who taught the dreadfully dull History of Magic lessons. Perhaps they might have been more interesting if they were taught by a teacher who was full of life? Oh, yeah, Professor Binns was a ghost! Did we forget to mention that? 

__Professor Bathsheda Babbling__

We never met Bathsheda but J.K. Rowling confirmed that she was the Ancient Runes teacher – a subject that Hermione Granger was a student of. We wonder if she was as talkative as her name suggests.  

__Professor Alecto Carrow__
<br>
The odious Alecto was the Muggle Studies teacher during Voldemort’s reign. During that time, Muggle Studies became compulsory for all Hogwarts students and their heads were filled with lies about the Muggle world.

__Professor Amycus Carrow__
<br>
Alecto’s brother Amycus was just as awful as his sister and was installed at Hogwarts at the same time as her. He taught Dark Arts (previously known as Defence Against the Dark Arts) and his hideous nature spilled over into his teaching. For example, he ordered students to practise the [Cruciatus Curse](/fact-file/spells/the-cruciatus-curse) on those who had earned a detention.

__Professor Aurora Sinistra__
<br>
Professor Sinistra was the Astronomy teacher. In her lessons, students would observe the night sky through telescopes in the Astronomy Tower and note down the stars they could see and the movement of the planets. 

__Professor Charity Burbage__
<br>
Charity Burbage was the Muggle Studies teacher (yet another subject Hermione took, despite being Muggle-born herself) specialising in the practises and traditions of the non-magical community. 

__Professor Septima Vector__
<br>
Oh look, another of Hermione’s teachers. Septima Vector taught Arithmancy, though we know little of what went on in that subject. What we do know is that it was rather difficult and involved predicting the future with numbers. It was also a subject you had to take if you wanted to be a curse-breaker at Gringotts’s bank.

__Madam Rolanda Hooch__

Last but by no means least, we have [Madam Hooch](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/rolanda-hooch). She was responsible for flying lessons at Hogwarts and also refereed the Hogwarts Quidditch matches. Interestingly, her eyes were bright yellow – like a hawk… and as a Quidditch ref we bet hawk-like eyesight can come in handy.

## Gryffindor
Well, we all know how this house contributed to winning the Battle of Hogwarts… particularly how a certain [Gryffindor](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/gryffindor) defeated one of the Darkest wizards of all time. Yes, if it wasn’t for Harry Potter, the wizarding world could have looked rather different – and a lot bleaker. And obviously his two best friends, Ron and Hermione, who fought alongside him, were instrumental in Voldemort’s downfall.

Then you have Neville, who defied Voldemort, drew the [sword of Gryffindor](/fact-file/objects/the-sword-of-gryffindor) and beheaded Nagini – a Horcrux and one of Voldemort’s most cherished companions (as much as Voldemort could cherish something). Then there were the Weasleys, Remus Lupin, Professor McGonagall, the memory of Dumbledore – the list goes on and on. Honestly, if we were to list all the ways that Gryffindor helped to win the Battle of Hogwarts, we would be here all day. Instead, let us tell you about one of our favourite Gryffindor moments. 

How could we talk about the Battle of Hogwarts without mentioning one of its most iconic moments? Molly Weasley, wracked with grief from the death of her son, stood up and defeated Bellatrix while delivering *that* line: ‘NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH’. Her rage and her power in that moment were quite something to behold. This witch, who was easily underestimated, defeated Voldemort’s right-hand woman and proved that you should *never* mess with the [Weasleys](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/the-weasleys).

## Hufflepuff
As a house that it is often overlooked, it’s easy to, well, overlook the important role of [Hufflepuff](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/hufflepuff) in the Battle of Hogwarts. When the time came to fight, Hufflepuff rose to the challenge – exemplifying their house trait of loyalty. Out of all the houses, only Gryffindor had more students who decided to remain behind at Hogwarts and face the evil before them. While this house did a lot as a whole, there were a couple of individuals who stood out.

Firstly, you have Nymphadora Tonks. What you need to remember is that Tonks had only recently given birth to her son, Teddy. She had every reason to stay behind and away from danger, but she didn’t. Instead, she chose to set an example for Teddy by doing what she could to ensure that her son grew up in a better world. She may have lost her life that day, but she didn’t go quietly and fought until the bitter end. 

Then you have the Head of Hufflepuff, [Pomona Sprout](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/pomona-sprout). Not once did her loyalty to the school waver. She knew that she wouldn’t be able to stop Voldemort from breaching the walls, but she could slow him and his cronies down with the ways she knew best: using magical plants as weapons, including screaming Mandrakes to boot. Ingenious.

## Ravenclaw
When it comes to a battle, you need brains as well as brawn to emerge victorious. It’s lucky then that Hogwarts has a house well known for its intelligence and wisdom. And it is even luckier that many of its members decided to stay and face Voldemort.

One such clever soul was the Head of Ravenclaw, Filius Flitwick. He used his Charms expertise to perform incredibly complex magic to stop Voldemort and his supporters from breaching the walls of Hogwarts for as long as possible. His actions allowed Harry time to try and find the lost diadem of Ravenclaw which contained a piece of Voldemort’s soul. When the Death Eaters did breach the walls of Hogwarts, he used his considerable wit and excellent combat skills to take down the likes of Yaxley and Dolohov – not an easy feat.

Then there was Luna Lovegood. She did so much for Harry and the wizarding world in the Battle of Hogwarts, it’s hard to know where to begin. She was the one who helped Harry find the [diadem](/fact-file/objects/ravenclaws-diadem). She was the one who helped him thwart a pack of Dementors with words of gentle encouragement and her own hare Patronus. And she was the one who knew Harry needed space and time in the aftermath of the battle, and caused a distraction so he could slip away. Without her, Harry would have been lost. 

Finally, it wasn’t just the living members of [Ravenclaw](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/ravenclaw) that played their part on this fateful night – the dead did to. Specifically, Helena Ravenclaw, otherwise known as the [Grey Lady](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/the-grey-lady). She had spent centuries tormented by the regret and shame that came with stealing her mother’s diadem. More recently, she had the regret and shame of telling a certain Tom Riddle about the location of the diadem. But she found redemption at the Battle of Hogwarts, sharing her closely guarded story with Harry which helped move him along the path to defeating Voldemort.

## Slytherin
Last but by no means least, let’s talk about the way [Slytherin](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/slytherin) contributed to defeating Voldemort at the Battle of Hogwarts. Obviously, we have to address the elephant in the room first. Yes, the Slytherins were led out of the castle at the beginning of the battle. And yes, Voldemort and most of his Death Eaters were former members of this house… But that doesn’t mean there weren’t those that played an important part in defeating Voldemort.

First there was Severus Snape. While Voldemort thought he was on his side, it turns out that Severus had secretly been working on bringing an end to Voldemort’s terror for years. When the battle was at its peak, Snape gave Harry the key to unlocking what he needed to end Voldemort once and for all – his memories. Without them, Harry would never have known that he was another of Voldemort’s Horcruxes and that he would have to sacrifice himself to destroy that piece of Voldemort’s soul. Without Snape importing that knowledge, the battle would have had a very different outcome.

Then there is the other Slytherin we think deserves to be called out – [Horace Slughorn](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/horace-slughorn). Yes, he might have left to lead the rest of his house out of Hogwarts… but he came back. When he arrived in Hogsmeade, he didn’t run from the fight, instead he helped to rally the villagers and returned to Hogwarts bringing reinforcements. In fact, he was one of the final three people (alongside Professor McGonagall and [Kingsley Shacklebolt](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/kingsley-shacklebolt)) to duel with Voldemort before his final showdown with Harry. This might appear to be somewhat out of character for Slughorn, who was known to be a little lazy and had perfected the art of running away. However, he had felt genuinely remorseful for telling a young Tom Riddle about Horcruxes and wanted to redeem himself. Fundamentally, he was good person, and that night he became somebody that Slytherin house could be proud to call their own.

Incidentally, it was his actions during the battle that helped to change the wider wizarding world’s perception of Slytherin – which had been unshakeable for hundreds of years. His courage lifted some of the stigma from his house and his portrait now hangs in pride of place in the Slytherin common room.

Thanks to his talent for collecting some of the most interesting (and useful) witches and wizards, he had a permanent supply of delicious treats at his disposal… he was *never* without a box of his favourite crystallised pineapple. In fact, a [Honeydukes](/fact-file/locations/honeydukes) hamper arrived for Slughorn’s birthday every year – courtesy of Ambrosius Flume (Slughorn helped get him his first job don’t you know), perfect for those days of chilling out and treating yourself.

## Why work harder when you can work smarter?
There’s nothing relaxing about working too hard and feeling stressed. Luckily, you can maintain your cosy vibe if you learn to work smarter and not harder – Slughorn was a pro at this. His [Slug Club](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/the-slug-club) might have been controversial, but it also made his life easier. All he had to do was lay the groundwork and then sit back and relax whilst he was inundated with gifts and perks from former members. Free Quidditch tickets whenever he wanted thanks to Gwenog Jones, captain of the Holyhead Harpies. The ear of the editor of the [*Daily Prophet*](/fact-file/objects/the-daily-prophet) Barnabas Cuffe. As many bottles of oak-matured mead or boxes of crystallised pineapple that he could want. All of it found its way to Slughorn and helped him live that life of leisure.

## The pinnacle of leisurewear 
Nobody wants to relax whilst wearing their Sunday best. How can you fully immerse yourself in comfort mode if you’re wearing a pair of jeans that cut off your circulation or a tie that makes you feel a bit like you’re being strangled? No, what you need is something soft, cosy and possibly velvety… just like Slughorn’s vast collection of smoking jackets. Well, we never said that comfort can’t be stylish and Slughorn’s jackets were both practical and fabulous. He even had a gorgeous, tasselled hat to match. If you can look this cool whilst also being snug, you’ll probably give Slughorn a run for his money as the king of cosy vibes.

## He loves a bit of nostalgia 
Whether it's flicking through an old photo album or reminiscing with your friends, there’s nothing that makes us feel more warm and cosy than a bit of nostalgia. Slughorn was someone who liked to take a walk down memory lane too. Remember his story of [Lily Potter](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/lily-potter) and Francis the fish? The bittersweet tale of fins and friendship brought a tear to our eye. Then there was his collection of photos of all his favourite pupils over the years. Some might say that Slughorn was purely boasting about all the influential people he knew… but we like to think his feelings went a little deeper. We reckon he was proud of all of those pupils and reminiscing about the good old days gave him a great sense of accomplishment.

## Squashy armchair transformations
You don’t feel fully relaxed or at peak cosiness when sat on a hard wooden bench. No, for true comfort you need a good old squashy armchair, with overstuffed cushions that you melt into whilst becoming one with the chair. Slughorn had the ability to do that… He literally turned himself into an armchair as a disguise. If that’s not peak cosiness we don’t know what is.

## The Butterbeer logo
There’s no wizarding drink more iconic than Butterbeer. This amber delight is a firm favourite amongst Harry and his friends. Who can resist that butterscotch flavour that warms your belly? It’s no surprise that MinaLima were tasked with bringing [Butterbeer](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/butterbeer) to life on screen with their original design in *Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone*.

Yet, this was a drink so popular that it made the leap from the screen to reality when MinaLima were asked to rebrand Butterbeer for the [Muggle](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/muggles) world in 2020. As with all their creations, the design has a rich backstory with lots of tiny, but very interesting, details…


‘We invented a rich history for the drink stretching back to the late medieval period. The slogan establishes the pedigree of a drink steeped in wizarding tradition: From the original 1550 Leaky Cauldron Recipe. The design features the colours of all four houses of Hogwarts and introduces a logo based on the double B. The logo takes the form of a honeybee, a popular medieval motif evoking sweetness and plenty.’

## Hogwarts exercise books
You can’t attend school without an exercise book – magical schools included! Where else would you make all your very thorough and detailed notes on Golpalott’s Third Law… or those doodles while you daydream through History of Magic lessons? As with every other element of the movies, there was so much care and attention put into these books. 

Harry, Ron and Hermione all had an exercise book that accompanied them through their time at [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) – each with their name handwritten on the front. Even that detail had to be carefully considered. For example, what would Hermione’s writing look like in comparison to Ron’s? Going further, their names had to be written in quill and ink – there are no ball point pens at Hogwarts! Finally, as each character progressed through the school and got older, their handwriting had to subtly change to reflect that too.

## Bertie Bott’s Every-Flavour Beans
This must be one of the more memorable sweets of the wizarding world – especially when you end up getting a rather unfortunate flavoured bean… earwax anyone? For this design, MinaLima wanted to show that this was a treat that had been around for years, a classically British treat whilst also being eye-catching and fun. So, they based the design of the box on a vintage Punch and Judy booth. Like this puppet show, the smiling children on the front may seem to be innocent but beware which bean you select – vomit flavoured is certainly not innocuous.

## The cover of the Lockhart books
[Gilderoy Lockhart](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/gilderoy-lockhart) loved, well, Gilderoy Lockhart, and MinaLima made sure that his vanity was reflected in the design of his books. Each and every one featured a moving picture of the man himself, perfectly dressed with his hair primped and coiffed. He also took centre-stage with his image wrapped in a gold frame – making sure that all eyes were on the five-time winner of *Witch Weekly’s* Most-Charming-Smile award! However, just like Lockhart, these books aren’t quite what they appear to be. At first glance, they seem to be made from luxury materials but look a little closer and you’ll see it’s all a charade.

Fun fact, to create the moving image on the front, MinaLima typically design a layout for the photographer to try and recreate. They then make a prop book with croma key green in place of the photos. In post-production, the green areas are replaced with the moving images thanks to the visual effects team!

## The Apothecarium 
Throughout the course of the films, MinaLima were responsible for creating hundred, or even thousands, of labels. Many of them were for potions – and [Professor Slughorn’s](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/horace-slughorn) Apothecarium in *Half-Blood Prince* was a particular treasure trove for such things.

In his classroom, there were bottles upon bottles of potions and ingredients lining the shelves, from belch powder to armadillo bile to the extremely poisonous Potion No. 07. Every single label was handmade and aged – some were even handwritten! And the labels didn’t just include what was in a particular bottle, some even had manufacturing names, ingredients lists and even skull and crossbones sign… we’d probably stay away from those!

## The Chudley Cannons
They might not have been the best [Quidditch](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/quidditch) team (some might even say they were pretty terrible), but they were Ron Weasley’s favourite. His bedroom at The Burrow was a shrine to the [Chudley Cannons](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/the-chudley-cannons). Every surface was dedicated to his obsession. His room was plastered with posters and the walls beneath were bright orange to reflect the team colours. He even had a bright orange Chudley Cannon blanket on his bed. Then there were all the books, magazines, badges and other memorabilia dotted about!

MinaLima had a lot of fun creating Ron’s collection and used it to say something about the history of the team. All the items were bright orange, but the designs were varied to show the different eras and iterations of the Chudley Cannons throughout the years.

## Ministry of Magic paperwork
Running a magical government requires a lot of paperwork – especially when you’re [Dolores Umbridge](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/dolores-umbridge) trying to track those who might be helping ‘Undesirable No. 1’ (AKA Harry Potter). And when Harry breaks into her office in *Deathly Hallows Part One*, he spots files on those who are suspected to be helping him – Albus Dumbledore, [Mad-Eye Moody](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/alastor-mad-eye-moody), Remus Lupin and Arthur Weasley.

All of that paperwork was designed by MinaLima who wanted to convey a rather particular personality for these props. To do that, all the paperwork was laden in seals, stamps, reference numbers and typography – creating an essence of authority and extreme bureaucracy.
