From ghost story readings to a special costume contest, the Cursed Child production at the Lyric Theatre in New York is going all out for Hallowe’en this year with a series of terrifying Tuesdays.

Ah, spooky season! We can practically taste the pumpkin spice as we type. And down in New York, the award-winning production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is putting on five special Hallowe’en themed evenings to celebrate, running every Tuesday across October.

October 3rd: A Dark Mark takeover

For the first of Cursed Child New York’s special evenings, you may find yourself surrounded by Death Eaters! Inconvenient! But don’t worry – Lord Voldemort hasn’t been recruiting. The Lyric Theatre are simply offering audience members temporary Dark Mark tattoos, alongside a special Dark Mark window card, signed by the cast.

October 10th: Bewitching beverages

You thought Butterbeer was delicious, but tonight, Cursed Child are serving up another lovely libation. For this performance, fans will get to sip on free samples of the non-alcoholic specialty autumnal beverage. This evening looks to be far more about treats than tricks in other ways too – with Hershey’s Chocolate World offering up a raffle in Times Square, alongside free seasonal treats for ticket-holders, courtesy of Chip City.

October 17th: Ghost stories and Hallowe’en pins

Who doesn’t love a spooky ghost story this time of year? For attendees of this performance, you’ll be entertained by theatre historian Tim Dolan of Broadway Up Close, who will be enrapturing the Lyric with a few terrifying tales before the show. Brittany Zeinstra, who plays Moaning Myrtle in the New York production, will also be around to help make things extra spirited.

No offence to Nearly Headless Nick, but this sounds a bit better than the mouldy cheese from his Deathday Party, doesn’t it?

There will also be an opportunity to discover a limited-edition Harry Potter and the Cursed Child pin, especially created for Hallowe’en 2023. You’ll be practically floating with glee if you get your hands on one of these.

October 24th: A mind-bending panel

The special effects in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child are some of those magical in Broadway, and to celebrate, this evening’s themed event will feature a demonstration of mind-bending illusions for the first 100 people in line for tonight’s production. A special gift will be given out post-show for all patrons too!

October 31st: Costume contests and pumpkins with pomp

And of course, the big night itself! Hallowe’en evening at Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is set to be a spooktacular (yep, we said it) extravaganza, with ticket-holders invited to an epic Harry Potter costume contest. The top 10 costumes will feature on the Cursed Child social channels – and there’ll even be a special photo op set up at the venue to make your costumes really shine.

And it wouldn’t be Hallowe’en without a couple of pumpkins, would it? Professionally-carved pumpkins from Maniac Pumpkin Carvers will be on display in the lobby, so do make sure to take a few snaps.
