Transfiguration is our favourite subject. No, actually, Charms. No, Defence Against the Dark Arts – we can’t choose! Yet, that’s exactly what we’re asking you to do. Pick your favourite magical lesson and we’ll reveal which Harry Potter film to watch based on your personality.

If you’re charmed by Charms… you should watch Philosopher’s Stone

If we looked up ‘joy’ in the dictionary, we’d find a picture of you. That’s because you know how to find the wonder in the everyday. You’re a bit of a homebody, who loves nothing more than appreciating the warmth of the sun on your face, as you drink a cuppa in your garden. This is why you love Charms. It might not be the trickiest subject or the flashiest, but that doesn’t matter to you. Really, you think its brilliance lies in how it can help make your day a little easier and a little brighter.

We think you should rewatch Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. It demonstrates the importance of this subject time and time again. From the bigger moments, like a Levitation Charm leading you to a new best friend, to the smaller moments, like Flitwick using Charms to decorate the Christmas trees… the first film is a love letter to finding magic everywhere.

As Herbology is your vibe… it’s time to rewatch Chamber of Secrets

Grounded. Down-to-earth. Practical. These are words that have been used to describe you on numerous occasions. You’re not afraid of hard work – you simply roll up your sleeves and get stuck in. You know that the satisfaction comes from when you get to see the fruits of your labour – which is why you picked Herbology. It takes a lot of patience to successfully grow and nurture magical plants (especially when some have a nasty habit of trying to strangle you) but you’re more than up for the task.

It's this that makes us think you’d get the most out of rewatching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Yes, there were epic battles with giant snakes, run-ins with giant spiders and an exceedingly powerful sword was pulled out of a hat… but the quiet hero of the film? Herbology. Without Professor Sprout and her students successfully raising a bunch of rowdy Mandrakes, who knows what would have happened to those who were Petrified? As someone who loves this subject, you’d adore seeing Herbology’s moment in the spotlight too.

Totally transfixed by Transfiguration? Then you should watch Prisoner of Azkaban

You’re an adventurer who can’t stand the mundane. Nothing sets your teeth on edge like things staying the same for too long – boring. Whether you’re dyeing your hair a vivid shade of pink or spontaneously quitting your job to travel round the world, you just love to shake things up. So, a subject all about turning one thing into another? Transfiguration couldn’t be more perfect for you.

You should definitely watch Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. We can sum up why in just one word – Animagus. Yep, what could be cooler than being able to turn yourself into an animal? Now that would keep things interesting. Plus, this film doesn’t have just one Animagus, it has multiple Animagi – and a werewolf! Transformations galore. A film that taps into your restless soul and leaves you feeling inspired.

If Care of Magical Creatures is your favourite… you should rewatch Goblet of Fire

Bold, possibly a little but reckless, but with a heart bursting with love. If this sounds like you, then we think you picked Care of Magical Creatures. With your caring nature, you are happiest when surrounded by animals. Big or small, you adore them all… especially those that you think are misunderstood.

You know what magical creatures Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire had that you (and Hagrid) believe are misunderstood? Dragons. Lots of dragons. You don’t think their flames, spikes and vicious teeth are frightening, they’re awe-inspiring! Then there’s the second Triwizard task, where you finally get to meet some of the beings that dwell beneath the surface of the lake! For someone who grew up wanting to run their own animal sanctuary, this is the film for you.

Drawn to Divination? Then we think that Order of the Phoenix needs to be top of your list

Divination is all about trying to unravel the mysteries of the universe and wonder what it could mean for the future. It requires a lot of belief in the unknown, a faith in fate… and the ability to drink a lot of tea. As someone who truly thinks that everything happens for a reason, knows their horoscope is true and can explain what Saturn being in retrograde means, you adore this open-ended subject.

We’d like to suggest you watch a film where the climax involves a hall filled with predictions for what the future might hold. A fight for one prophecy that could change the course of wizarding history. In short, a film that finally gives Divination the respect it deserves.

Perhaps you are positively peppy about Potions… if so, we’d suggest Half-Blood Prince

With the surly Snape dominating the Potions classroom for the first few years of Harry’s Hogwarts career, you forget how beautiful an art it truly is. Yes, there might be a lot of chopping, weighing and mixing but as you master the craft, you realise it requires a little flair too – an extra stir here, a sprinkle of something there.

That’s why you are drawn to it – you’re something of a creative yourself and a perfectionist. Whether you love to cook, paint or crochet, you dedicate hours to mastering your craft, pulling out the beauty others may not see. Which is why we think you should watch Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. With Slughorn at the helm, and a bottle of Felix Felicis up his sleeve, it shows Potions in a brand-new, dare-we-say, enjoyable light.

Ancient Runes has always been your calling… now Deathly Hallows Part One is calling too

There’s nothing more thrilling to you than solving a puzzle – your logical brain breaking down the different elements, patiently sorting through the clues, until you piece together the answer. Which is exactly why you are captivated by Ancient Runes. While the subject remained fairly elusive, we do know that involved understanding and translating ancient symbols.

With that in mind, we know that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One should be your next watch – it’s a puzzler’s dream! Solving the cryptic clues left by Dumbledore. Paying attention to the tiniest detail in case it’s actually a lead to a Horcrux. Coming up with multiple intricate plans that can only be described as spectacular. With that evidence and your analytic mind – we’re sure you’ll agree.

As someone fascinated by Defence Against the Dark Arts… Deathly Hallows Part Two is for you

You can’t stand injustice, and you won’t tolerate inequality. You’re passionate about fighting for a better world, and you always hope to stand up for those who can’t protect themselves. Some might even call you a powerhouse… that’s why you chose Defence Against the Dark Arts. What better subject for you than one that fends of the forces of evil, with spells like the Patronus Charm pushing back the Dark to make room for the light.

Watch the final Harry Potter film and you’ll see this all in action. It’s a film where characters look evil straight in the eye and don’t back down. One where good conquers evil. A film which is both the final chapter of Harry’s story and the first in a new, more equal, era for the wizarding world.
