The Lupin we met in the films had many pearls of wisdom
Remus Lupin was generous. He was generous with his time, his students and had a beautiful way of seeing a person as a whole. His turbulent life as a werewolf on the fringes of wizarding society, coupled with his compassionate nature gave him a unique perspective and a whole lot of wisdom. Let him show you himself…
Lupin was equally as inspirational in book form
That’s not all the Lupin brilliance we have gathered for you today! You are just as likely to find an excellent pearl from this Marauder within the pages of the Harry Potter books…
Sometimes you need a bit of perspective
Life can be challenging and sometimes it feels as though you can’t see the wood from the trees – especially when you are struggling or feel as though you’re failing. It’s hard to take a step back and see the whole picture. Yes, Harry found it harder to be near Dementors than his peers. Yes, it led to some embarrassing and frustrating situations for him. But he was ignoring the context. Luckily, Lupin was there with a few choice and reassuring words to remind him.

A bittersweet moment
Ok, he might have had the odd wobble (like recklessly trying to join Harry on a dangerous Horcrux hunt with a newborn at home) but Lupin was selfless and noble – no matter the cost. We wish that he, Tonks and Teddy could have had more time as a family, but these words, whilst tragic, bring some comfort and are rather inspiring. It’s quite the legacy to leave behind.

It’s always nice when people see your strengths
Of course it’s common knowledge that Hermione Granger was a genius. The hundred and twelve percent she got in her first-year Charms exam. The fact she brewed Polyjuice Potion as a second-year. The way she figured out exactly how Rita Skeeter was getting all those horrible scoops – that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Yet, most people were rather disparaging of Hermione’s gift. She was dismissed as a ‘know-it-all’ all too frequently (jealousy is a horrid green-eyed monster). Then Lupin came along. Even though this moment happened in rather… tense circumstances, it’s always nice when somebody sees you for who you are and the power you wield.

Sometimes it’s hard to recognise your own achievements
So that fateful night in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban might not have gone quite according to plan. A certain rat may have escaped. An important name might not have been cleared. A particular werewolf might have forgotten to take his Wolfsbane Potion. However, that doesn’t mean it was all for nothing. In the aftermath, Lupin knew exactly what Harry needed to hear.

It’s always important to believe in yourself
We get it. It can be so hard to bet on yourself. Even the Chosen One himself, Harry Potter, struggled with that. Lupin always believed in him though – even after he and Harry exchanged some terse words in Deathly Hallows. The importance of having someone in your corner, reminding you that you can rely on yourself, should not be underestimated.

Possibly the wisest piece of advice he gave…
Is there anything better than chocolate? We can’t think of anything. It also happens to have some handy healing properties after a close encounter with a Dementor – we told you it was perfect. Don’t just take out word for it. If there’s one piece of Lupin’s wisdom you should take to heart, it’s this…

He’s right. Chocolate always does.
